Mucus in 6 Wk Old Stools

We have been having some issues with our 6 week old daughter being quite fussy...she is formula fed (Similac Advance) and just started Prevacid last Friday for possible reflux. She usually has 1 stool a day the other day she had 2. Today when I changed her dirty diaper (very full) I noticed small strings that appeared to be mucousy. There was not a large amount, only saw 2-3 strings. Is this normal? Color is greenish, fairly liquidy (most soaks into diaper but not all)

and she has not been congested...

What can I do next?

I'm not sure about formula fed babies but my breastfed babies had this when I ate dairy. They were all allergic to dairy when I ate it and then BF them.

My son used to get mucous-y poop when he had congestion. Is she congested?

Has she had a cold? If she's sucked down some snot (totally gross, I know) then it may come out in her poo.

If not, is she irritated at all? Her lady parts I mean... My DD had some irritation just a couple weeks ago but it made her discharge a little green goo also.

Good luck! :)

Talk to your pediatritian but i would think about switching to lactose free formula like Similac Sensitive. Neither of my girls tolerated regular formula. Its really very common. I wouldn't recommend Soy though. They are finding out a lot of negative things about the simulated estrogens contained in soy.

Its quite possible its the formula causing all the problems. Mucousy poop can be a sign of an allergy. Perhaps she has an allergy or sensitivity to dairy.
This is taken from Dr. Sears "4. Formula allergies. Babies fed a cow's-milk-based formula may become colicky if they're allergic to the protein or can't tolerate the lactose in cow's milk. If a formula allergy is suspected, a hypoallergenic formula (Alimentum, Nutramigen, or Pregestamil) or a lactose-free formula may be recommended by your doctor. The American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition does not recommend changing to soy formula, since studies have shown that colicky infants do not improve when switching from cow's milk to soy formulas.

Suspect sensitivity to formula or to something in your breastmilk if any of the following ring true:

Baby's pain escalates within an hour after feeding.
Baby seems gassy or bloated, rather than contented, after feeding.
Baby spits up profusely soon after feeding.
Baby begins to nurse or bottlefeed, but keeps pulling off, crying as if he's in pain. (The irritated gut starts churning during a feeding, which can make feeding time torturous for the allergic, yet hungry, baby and frustrating for mothers.)
Baby has constipation or diarrhea.
Baby's bowel movements are extremely watery, mucousy, or explosive.
Baby shows the "target-sign": a red, circular rash around the anus, caused by the skin reacting to irritants in his feces."
