What does it mean if my 4 month old has " just a little bit of" MRSA in his urine? He had a UA done last friday and it had MRSA. He doesn't act sick and they retested 2 days ago and his Dr told me yesterday that something was growing but it hadn't been identified yet. I am waiting to hear the final results but kinda freaked out.
(He has been hospitilized twice for heart surgeries.)

I don't know ANYTHING about this at all! Thanks for your help!

So What Happened?

The Dr just emailed me and said that it WAS MRSA and since he doesn't act sick, he is putting him on oral antibiotics.

I talked to my cousin who is a NICU nurse and she said that they have babies get it all the time and are treated with antibiotics and are fine! I feel SO much better after talking to her!!

Thank you so much for your help!

Oh, bless his little heart (and you too)...two heart surgeries!
In the event there is MRSA at any amount, I would hope they are aggressively treating with antibiotics, instead of the wait and see approach. A couple of days should be sufficient enought to identify a source of treatment. Keep checking in with them and DON'T wait for them to contact you! Someone in the doctors office needs to stay on top of the lab.

I didn't know anyone could have "little bit of MRSA"...you either do or you don't.

MRSA is Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and known to most as multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ...which means it is resistant to most if not all antibiotics.

First and foremost DO NOT PANIC. Get educated by your doctor and hospital - if you google it - you might just freak yourself out - as you are not a doctor and might read the stuff and just freak.

Since your son already has a depressed immune system from multiple surgeries, the place to pick up MRSA is the hospital....so talk with the hospital and pediatrician about what they told you and what they are going to do.

I don't know if you can be a MRSA carrier and never have it...kind of like other diseases - people are carriers and never had the disease.

Good luck - I hope your son is fine and it's NOT MRSA!!

My aunt has MRSA living in her nasal passages. Apparently it is quite common to have it and I was told not to worry about it. We only found out because she was hospitalized for an unrelated problem and they test every patient that is admitted for MRSA. I was told, it is not a problem until it is a problem:) The docs only treat it if there is an active infection. I don't mean to down play it because it can be very serious but it sure sounds like your Ped. is not too concerned. If it was serious the docs would not mess around especially given your son's history.
Take care.

Exactly what Cheryl said, you either have it or you don't (kind like being pregnant). This is a test with a TAT (turn around time) of 24 hours, I'm sorry you had to be stressed. Best of luck!

I am sick to learn of your baby's problems. So. Here is my best advice. Look around for a very experienced and respected homeopath who may also be an Osteopath or a Naturopath.
You baby needs someone who is not a newbie but a long experience person who has studied long and hard. The best homeopaths are those who studied with Rajan Sankaran in India. Mine did and he cured me of asthma and a familial form of anemia which I had since childhood.
Look up Homeopathy on Wikipedia so you know what kind of system you are getting into. If more great homeopaths were available in America Big Pharma would be out of business.

I assume the doc said "a little" so that you would know it wasn't a run-away infection. I hope the antibiotics work quickly. Hugs to her - and to you too - so much to go though so early in life.
