Hi,

We are moving to Sacramento next month and are really starting to look into fun classes and things to do in the area. My 3-year-old loves sports classes. We currently live in Portland, Oregon and my son takes a baseball class at a local community center that he loves. Does anyone have suggestions of classes like that? He also loves art projects, playing outside, climbing, jumpling, etc. I would love to hear about the great places to take munchkins in Sacramento (we'll be living in midtown, but I'm interested in anything in the area).

Thanks!

First of all, Welcome to Sactown!...you will love living in Midtown...great place, people and of course food!. They just openend up a great kids place called ArtBeast Studio... http://www.artbeaststudio.com/
I have not been there yet, but we plan to get out there this summer since we are over by Mather Airport.

I am not sure about the Parks and Rec out in that area..but you might want to check out meetup.com and look for mommy playgroups in that area..I think there is one for the midtown area. When I first moved here 3years ago, I didn't know a soul, so I started my own mommy group and is still going strong.

oh, another place your son might like is the California Train Musuem...they have a Thomas the train play area upstairs..and the membership there is really cheap....a kids membership is $20 I think and a parent gets in free with the child...this place is in old sac.

we used to take Kindermusic in midtown, wonderful lady that teaches there...she's like off of J and 24th street I think...

Hopefully this will get you going....and if you can't find a mommy group there...start one! Best thing I ever did!

The others have mentioned a lot of the key activities. There's also a children's museum slated to open this fall, I believe, in Rancho Cordova. Also, the Miner's Ravine trail in Roseville is great for nature walks ... you feel like you've left the city. It's paved and mostly flat, so you can easily use a stroller. Our kids love it. If you're in Roseville, the Fountains shopping center has interesting fountains to watch, a water play area for kids, a small park and mini train ride. Lake Tahoe can even be a day trip from Sacramento and there are all sorts of fun outdoor activities for kids there (beach access, trails, boat rides, etc.).

Also, since your son likes baseball, consider taking him to a Sacramento RiverCats game. They're a minor league team for the As and they have a wonderful stadium. Very family-friendly.

It sort of depends on which neighborhood you are moving to in Sacramento. If you are in Sacramento City, there are several spring sports leagues available for baseball, soccer, etc. You can try http://www.lppll.com/ for a start. One super fun place we just found is Art Beast that has all sorts of fun crafts, activities, etc. http://artbeaststudio.com/ . All within shouting distance from one another in Land Park are: Sac Zoo, Fairy Tale Land, and Funderland.

Hope this helps!

Hi there! Go to www.sacmomsclub.com. Awesome resource for all things kid friendly & fun in Sacramento. Great event calendar & activity guide. Also try www.meetup.com & search for playgroups in the midtown area. The City of Sacramento Parks & Rec department also has tons of great stuff to do. Sacramento has really nice parks and I'm sure you will fall in love with McKinley park. Awesome park in midtown! Welcome to Sac!
