You can check out Schools at Greatschools.net They have lots of information on schools as well as parent reviews. The best High schools right now are 1. Coronado 2. Green Valley 3. Silverado

It does depend on where you will be working if you are... and if you don't want a nasty long commute!

I HATE where I currently live.. I am near the N LV airport and its getting to be super ghetto. I am moving to Green Valley in a couple months.

Summerlin is really nice and I love Green Valley in Henderson.

I go to school in GV and have many friends that live down there.. I tend to drive to Summerlin East or to Green Valley for shopping and such. I like the Seven Hills area too. AVOID east and around Nellis. And most parts of North Las Vegas, unless you want extreme north like Aliente.

Mountains Edge and Rhodes Ranch areas in the SW are beautiful, nice, and more on the quiet side, but can be a bit of a drive to some other parts of town.

I work as a sub for CCSD. I've seen a lot of the schools in different areas. I've seen the worst the school district has to offer. The Green Valley area is your best bet. I live in Silverado Ranch, which is also nice. We're very happy with my son's school, Cartwright Elementary. STAY AWAY from the East and Northeast parts of town. The schools here are considered 'high risk', not where you want your kids to be. Summerlin is supposed to be nice, too, but I haven't subbed there because it's a nasty drive for me. You just have to watch out because they changed the airport traffic pattern, so some parts of that area are noisy.

You're going to hear a lot of good and bad about this town. Some people think it's a lousy place to raise kids. The school district is hardly award-winning, however, if you pay attention to your kids and their education, you'll be just fine. Other than that, this town is what you make of it. Good luck!

well i think anthem is the best ....with good schools and everything...dont go for greenvally i lived there for 6 months its one of the old comunityies and the houses are not energy efficient so usually you end up paying 100$ more for the square footage you get in new areas.also anthem is almost 10degrees cooler than rest of the city coz of hightand temperature is one of the important things that you should consider about vegas.its safe more scenic and quite.though a little bit expensive
i have also heard about summerlin that its good but never lived there.green vally has good schools but thats it.....mountain edge is new schools are not yet at iits best there plus there is only one road that you can take to come nad leave from there so you can imagine whats gona happen when its all filled... its still under construction in most parts so i dont know if its good to be in all that construction ...but it will develop in few years obviously. i have been in active search for homes ever since i moved to vegas almost a year back so i know much about here through my realter.

I love the Silverado Ranch area SE Las Vegas. Most of the neighborhoods are new and taken good care of. Many schools close by too. I used to live in the Green Valley area which is a beautiful area too. And if you move there which is actually only 10 minutes from the Silverado area, One of the top rated High Schools is very close (Green Valley High) They have won many honers for kids doing so well at that school. I hope this helps. I hope you enjoy it here :)

I agree with Melissa. We rent in the Green Valley area in Henderson. We have three children, and all of them have loved living here. All of our friends are nearby, great elementary schools, parks, and other activities.

Hi K.:

My husband and I have been in Las Vegas for almost 7 years. We have always lived on the SW side of town, and have really liked it. I've heard that Henderson is nice, but what we saw, we didn't really care for. A lot of our friends have moved from there to this side of town. We recently bought a home in Mountains Edge. (there's a website if you want to check it out mountainsedge.com) and I have to say this is by far, the best part of town we've found yet. We love it here!

The schools in Las Vegas really get a bad rap. My oldest just finished first grade, so we don't have that much experience in the school system, but so far, we've had a great experience (her school was in spring valley). In my opinion, you really want to stay away from the E and NE parts of town. The majority of crime is centered there, the schools are not performing well at all, and it's just not a nice part of town.

Summerlin is very nice, (and it's not loud at all, the people just complain with the new flight path) but I think it's very overrated. The homes are expensive, and most of the HOA's are a nightmare. It's why we didn't buy there.

Like one mom said, life here really is what you make of it. My family and I love it here. There are tons of great parks, places to take your kids and really great people here. If you can think of anything else you'd like to know or if there's anything else I can help you with, feel free to e-mail me. Good luck on your move. Best wishes.

I live in the Green Valley area (Eastern & 215) and I love it. It's nice and quiet with lots of shopping in the area. I do live in an apartment and the complex is very well kept. My son attends Vegas Valley Christian, aprivate christian daycare/school (Russell & Mtn Vist)a few miles from home and does very well. If you want more info please feel free to get in touch.

Hi K.,
Welcome to LV...I live in Summerlin and have no complaints. The air traffic does not come out my way, as I live in the Summerlin North. I have everything I need as far as markets, home improvement stores, Costco, and Walmart. I am close to the beltway which surrounds the outer most part of the city limits and from there we can get around to most parts of Vegas. The only bad drive is US 95, whichis almost always busy, but traffic is just something we have to live with at this point.

As far as schools, my older daughter went to several different public schools in the valley and she did just fine. She went to college and I believe it is what you make of it. There were things she CHOSE not to pay attention to, so she lacked in that area. At some point in education, you will find things that don't catch your interest, so you may not do so well.

I will say that we do have a teacher shortage here and are always looking for ways to recruit more teachers. This recent school year, I believe they recruited teachers from the Philipines (SP). Our classes are often maxed at their limit. I am not certain what they do if they go over the limit. Despite the issue, I do believe all students have a desk and chair...we are not at that point yet.

Welcome to Las Vegas. There are two places to live in Vegas - Summerlin (West Side) and Green Valley (East Side). Both communities are family oriented and have great schools. We live in Summerlin and love it.

I live in the Green Valley area of Henderson and absolutely love it here. We have the perfect home in a beautiful neighborhood. I love all the parks and ameneties nearby. The Clark County School District leaves something to be desired, but the schools nearby are some of the best we have in the Vegas area.
