Our family is hopefully going to be moving in the next couple months. My question is can he finish out the rest of the school year where he is granted we will have to provide transportation. We are putting our house on the market very soon and depending on when it sells depends on when we move. We may need to live with MIL untill we find a house.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

You'll have to check with the school. Each is different. My sons school was allowed to stay because it was May but they said if it was any earlier he would have had to switch. So only your own school department can answer as to how early they will allow it. If you have a relative in the same school system you can use thier address and tell them he's staying there for the remainder of the year but will be spending a lot of time at home or whatever. But it might work easier that way.

I believe you can. but you may need to check with the city/town you live with,, school choice may or maynot be available.

My best advice is go talk to the school. Let them know ahead of time, that you aren't sure when you are going to move but would really appreciate your son being able to have consistency for the whole school year. Don't wait until the last minute or lie to them, they will be less likely to work with you. Good Luck!

My sister did it with her two kids last year for 1/2 the year. It was an intra-district move. She had to provide transportation. Sometimes it was driving one kid to her old bus stop.

I'm sure each district has it's own policies about attendance areas, but if it is what the parent/child desire, I would think the pricipals (who sign off on transfers) would see it in the child's best interest to finish with the consistency of same school and teacher.

If it were me, I probably wouldn't even mention it to the school. You are looking at a very short amount of time and I personally wouldn't want to run the risk of them saying NO, and having to move him to a new school at this time of the year. If you still own your home and it's on the market -- even though you don't live in it -- that would be okay in my mind. Good Luck!!

Talk with your principal who will then speak with the superintendent. In most cases if you move withing 6-8 weeks of the last day of school and you will transport, they will allow it! Keep in mind the market and the fact that it takes a month or two to close... you should be fine!
