Is Water For Elephants out on DVD or on demand yet?
My Best Friends Wedding
Beaches
Joy Luck Club
My mom and I are taking my two girls on vacation in a few weeks, and we are planning to watch movies in the evening after the girls are in bed. I'm having the hardest time coming up with a list of movies to rent because this is MY MOM!!! She's fun and awesome and will watch just about anything, but she's pretty much a prude and many movies will either offend her or make me gag because I can't watch sex scenes with my mom in the room.
Does anyone have ideas for fun chick flick movies to watch with my mom that aren't too over the top? So far I'm thinking about
Valentine's Day and Eat Pray Love. Any other suggestions of movies you've seen lately that you liked?
Edited to add: We could watch movies that aren't chick flicks too. My mom has suggested the Harry Potter series or the Lincoln Lawyer. So suggestions like that are welcome too. Thanks again ladies!!

My Best Friends Wedding
Beaches
Joy Luck Club
My favorite is Mama Mia, I bet she would love watching that one with you. Singing in the Rain is a great on as well.
Julie & Julia, Beaches, Steel Magnolias
Steel Magnolias
A League Of Their Own
do they have to be current movies? if not then
Never been kissed with Drew Barrymore
Blast from the past with Brenden Frasier
Guarding Tess with Shirley McClain and Nicholas Cage
Mrs Winterbourne with Brenden Frasier and Shirley McClain
National treasure 1 and 2 Nicholas Cage
Dangerous Minds Michelle Pfieffer
Blind Side Sandra Bullock
Miss Congeniality 1 Sandra Bullock
Notting Hill, You've Got Mail, The Terminal. Love all those, and they are clean.
My mom loved Marley and Me.
Shakespeare in Love,
Clueless.
"Sweet Home Alabama" - my mom and I just happened to go see that together at the movies (something we have rarely done).
Cute mama movie!
Like Kimberly, I wish my Mom was still here for me to pick movies and hang with her! She passed on Thanksgiving Day 2007, very suddenly. Coming up on a tougher than normal time of year for me. I struggle everyday.
She loved alot of movies. Anything Jane Austen or Masterpiece Theater...we loved that junk! If there was a sex scene (like in "The Duchess"..another period piece...it was time for me to go pee or get snacks! LOL
She would have loved Julie & Julia, most of the superhero flicks and my Mom LOVED watching the early Harry Potters (and reading the books) with my now 17 year old daughter and I!
Devil Wears Prada
Finding Neverland
Second hand Lions (Michael Caine, Robert Duvall...sweet and funny!)
My big fat greek wedding (always great!)
Radio
My Mom also would have loved Despicable Me!
Have fun!
Lincoln Lawyer was AWSOME..but yall could watch old movies, I love old movies like Beaches, and Imitations of life (if that doesnt get you to appreciate your mom, nothing will) but I am a big crybaby, and love movies I can just sit and cry to, like the 2 listed above, My sisters keeper and The lovely bones. But me and mom like to watch scary movies, and twilight series. I seen some good ones listed below also, steel magnolias, and of course Fried green tomatoes.
Well my Mom wants to watch Rio Angry Birds!
LOL
Also: "Manon of the Spring" is good. Its a French foreign film. Nothing graphic or sexual. GOOD movie. A real classic. With many famous actors.
Also "Meet The Fockers" is good and funny. My Mom liked that.
Or Bourne Identity movies.... Matt Damon.
Personally, I don't like "chick flicks."
You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle! Classics. You could also do some old movies: I love Barefoot in the Park, Philadelphia Story, Funny Face, Rear Window (LOVE that movie)
other ideas:
Roxanne
Baby Boom ( they do talk about sex though. . . )
A Series of Unfortunate Events (fun newer movie, more action-y and good for kids too)
The Blind Side
Life is Beautiful
.
I wish my mom was here to watch movies with. Enjoy your time with your mother.
We love movies like The Women, 27 Dresses, The Proposal (may be a little racy), Indiana Jones trilogy (the first 3 movies), Bride Wars, anything Disney (Especially Wall-E).
My mom was the biggest cowboy movie buff alive. So I could literally pop in a day's worth of cowboy flicks and she was in absolute heaven.
Also movie classics are really big for me, so Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, The 10 Commandments, Cleopatra, Red Velvet, Singing in the Rain, The Sound of Music, etc.
Have a wonderful time with you children and mother.
Some oldies we used to like to watch:
The Lady Eve: http://www.amazon.com/Lady-Eve-VHS-Barbara-Stanwyck/dp/63...
Ball of Fire: http://www.amazon.com/Ball-Fire-Gary-Cooper/dp/B000NIBUT4...
It Happened One Night: http://www.amazon.com/Happened-One-Night-Remastered/dp/B0...
And we both love The Joy Luck Club but we have never viewed it together.
Have fun!
I'd look at older (like 50s and 60s) romance and romantic comedy movies, or even dramas and such. They were much less likely to have inappropriate scenes and language.
Umm... The Secret Life of Bees is a MUST SEE esp with your mom.
Love 'Pride and Prejudice'
Blind Side, Monster in Law, Devil Wears Prada, Harry Potter. Those are just some off the top of my head (I took HP from your post :) Have fun !
Why don't you each make a list of movies you've been wanting to see, then pick the ones you both have on the list?
I'm on a Robert Duvall kick so my suggestions are Get Low and Secondhand Lions.
I also recommend The Young Victoria and, if you want to watch with your daughters, Ramona and Beezus. My mom loved that movie! :)
Other suggestions,
Letters to Juliet
Dream Girls
Leap Year
Pride and Predjudice
Emma (it's a few year old, but I never get tired of it!)
Chronicles of Narnia
I hope your vacation is fabulous!
edit* Check out "Sweet Land" it was filmed in my hometown! It's a little on the slow side, but I found myself really liking it.
