Movie "Real Steele" for a 5 Year Old?

I haven't seen it...but it's PG-13...I'd be really hesitant to show it to a 5 year old...but that's just me :p. You can look it up on kidsinmind.com and it will give you a very detailed description of the sex/nudity, violence, language...etc.

My 5 year old son and I just watched it. The father's a bit of a loser - drinking, gambling, etc. He and the 11-year old get mouthy with each other - "shut-ups" and that type of thing. I think I heard s**t 2x (my son didn't notice). Aside from the scenes with the robots boxing (a couple robots get completely destroyed), there is one scene of minor person-on-person violence. There is also a scene where the dad lies down on the bed, fully clothed, with the girlfriend. My son commented, "He has his OWN bed!" - LOL! I would say that quite a bit of it was over his head and there were probably a couple scenes I would have preferred he didn't see, but he loves robots and he did enjoy it. If you would let your kid watch Star Wars, this is probably OK. Otherwise, wait a couple years.

This is a terrific website for trying to find out if a particular movie is appropriate for kids and what ages. It does break down exactly what is in the movie (as in smoking, foul language, drinking, violence, sexual content, etc.) and how it is presented. You can also read reviews from other parents who have seen the movie. I have not seen or heard anything about this movie but this is a good resource if you have any doubts or questions.

I did take a peek briefly, just out of curiosity - the recommended ages were 12 and up. The youngest age I saw recommended by a parent was 10.

Just wanted to add to what the ladies below said...the places that some of the scenes take place and the people in the scenes are somewhat of a layer of society that is scary, probably more than the boxing. Creepy, even.

I wouldnt go out of my way to show it to him.

I saw this movie with my hubby ... and it's a great movie. There might be a little bit of language that's not totally appropriate for a 5 year old. But the movie is a combination of Rocky, The Champ and dang it now I can't remember the 3rd movie hubby and I thought of. But it's a GREAT GREAT movie.

I would have let my kids see it at 5.

It mostly focuses on the boxing and the relationship between a father and son, when the father hasn't seen the son either his whole life or since he was a baby, I can't remember. There is violence, as it's boxing, but most of it is robot violence (although there is at least one scene with human on human violence). There are no sex scenes, although there is a tiny romancey subplot. My 5 year old would probably be bored during a lot of it, but she loves Transformers, so maybe she'd try to watch it, but would probably go back to playing pretty quickly.
