Hi could anyone let me know more info about this high school...like any problems they have, or would you recomend this high school for your child. As my daughter is home schooled right now but wants to return to public school this next year but I am not sure I am comfortable with it. She is a Freshman this year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much...

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the great advice on this....she is still going back and forth with returning to public school or staying home schooled...she does not want to repeat any grades so she will probably stay home schooled...she just misses having the kids to hang out with is what I think...she is tired of her brother and sister...well thanks again this is a great group.

Personally I don't know about the inside of the school. However I will tell you that I used to live in that same distrit and was glad that my child would have been going to that school. You can always go to the website through vbschools.com and check it out. Good luck!!

I am the host mother of 6 foreign exchange students who attended First Colonial High School. I consider it one of the best schools in Virginia Beach. Sure there are students who don't want to study but you find that everywhere. Yes, it is a huge school with close to 2000 students, going every which away in the halls. But I found the staff and teachers excellent, willing to help. I also think it is a very safe school because of the location and the student population. You must be active in seeking help with the counselors and teachers. I think your daughter will do great once she gets past the size. (one of my "sons" came from a village of only 2000 and he did well). Lots of activities. If your daughter is gifted, there is also a great gifted program. I highly recommend FC.

Being a native, there are only public two schools I will consider for my kids... FC and Cox. All schools have their issues, FC is fine. Look at these sites for more information:

I am in this school district as well. My sister and my Dad both graduated from there! I don't think I have heard of any particular problems in the school itself. No news making events...LOL. From what I understand, it is a really good school. Hope that helps :)

I grew up in VB (use to live in that area) and use to work for VBCPS for 12 yrs. There are 3 top VB high schools. Kellam, Cox, and FC (no particular order there). FCHS is a great school. Great teachers and administrators. I have family members and friends that their kids are currently enrolled or have graduated from there. You should have absolutely no worries!
