Hey there S.,
i wanted to let you know that my aunt has started a support group for parents who have diabetic kids. my cousin was diagnosed at 2 yrs old. i myself know what its like to fight with the meters and all that. i have to do it for myself. if you'd like me to i can gather the information (website etc) so that you can contact them. i know we're in maine and you're in ny, but there are many moms in the group, and the kids are at all different stages, so it may be something to help. The group is called "For The Kids" and its a great resource! let me know if you're interested!!

Hello S.,

I am 36 and a mother of 4...
My 13 year old was diagnosed w/diabetes this past may.
When diagnosed he was type 2, however he cannot take the meds for type 2 (b/c they make him very, very sick) and is now insulin dependant.
His Endocronologist (wonderful woman in Staten Island) (on the list of Top 100 dr's from NY magazine)
has said they are starting to call this type 3 diabetes. I found that to be quite interesting since I didn't know too much about diabetes in the first place.

I too am like you in trying to find other moms who have diabetic children.
Even though my child is 13 and a boy, I would be happy to talk w/you and hear what is happening in the daily lives of other diabetic children. (We haven't much to go on as far as other children)

I too am not helpful, but I was just wondering if her ped could recommend a nutritionist? Maybe it would be something covered by insurance. I am so sorry she has to be going through this (((HUGS))) I wish you the best

I am sorry that I can not offer any "personal" advice to you, but there are a lot of helpful web sites on the computer that you can go to, either go to www.ask.com or www.google.com and type in "children with type 1 diabetic". Also have you looked in your hometown for support groups? I am sorry that I can not be any more help, but let me know how things are going.
