Mother's Day Gift for Daycare Mom?

I love our daycare provider. We went through a couple before we found her and we just think she's fantastic and we really appreciate the level of care she gives the kids! She does the care in her home and she only has our 2 kids, her 2 kids and one other girl. She always has a theme for the week, and runs her childcare like it's a preschool or daycare center. It's great! She's doing a Mother's Day theme this week, and has even invited me to join the kids for lunch on Monday. This may be a dumb question, but should I get her a small Mother's Day gift "from the kids"? I don't feel like I "have to" or anything... I realize it might be weird, but I do think of her as a third parent helping to raise our kids that we love so very much. We just really appreciate her, and don't want to miss an opportunity to let her know! Opinions??

So What Happened?

Thanks for the feedback! I wanted to make sure it wouldn't be weird for me to do something for her! :) I decided to get her a gift card for a local salon/spa that also has a shop with good smelling lotions, etc. That way she could do a mani/pedi or just get something that smells good! I also got her a Thank You card rather than Mother's Day and I plan to gush about how much I appreciate her! :)

As a daycare provider, I just want to say how wonderful it is that you are thinking of her. We providers don't get to hear how much we are appreciated very often. She will be thrilled! A save the hand written cards/notes, they mean a lot. It is great you have found such a good match.

I think it is great you want to show your appriciation!! I would get her a gift if you want to.

My daycare provider had her first child last year after Mothers day. I purchased a gift card for her from a spa place. I have not yet decided what to do for this year. I will be reading your responses as well!

I have decided I would get "her" something verses getting something for the daycare, it is all about Moms that day. Is there anything you know of she enjoys?? Getting her hair done, making scrap books, nails, I have even heard of people paying for an extra day that week.

I have also heard that Providers enjoy homemade gifts, your kids may be a tad young, but doing a craft with them to give to your provider. Hope this helps, and like I said, I will be reading your responses as well.

As a mom of 4 and also a childcare provider for the past 6 years, I can tell you that ANY type of appreciation shown for her and what she does each day would make her day! We (providers) don't get job reviews and raises like other jobs, and some times don't feel appreciated for the long hours and extras that we do for our Daycare families. I think it's great that you want to do that for her. Also, if you don't want to call it a "Mothers day" gift, Provider Appreciation Day is ALWAYS the Friday before Mother's day. Hope you have a Happy Mother's day too! :)

As a childcare provider for the past 20 years, I can tell you that a card expressing how much you appreciate her is one of the best gifts I ever receive. I also like gift certificates to restaurants, craft stores, manicure/pedicure, even movie theatre tickets. I also have parents who just put cash in cards so that I can spend it wherever I want to.

You are so thoughtful for remembering her on Mother's Day.
