Hi, I am 8 weeks pregnant. I am also taking care of my 1 year old 24/7, no day care and dad works late. I'm exhausted and sick to my stomache all the time. I eat small meals and not many a day. Some days I just eat once or twice because the thought of food makes me sick. I'm hungry all the time. It's so hard to want food so bad and then get sick thinking of it. I'm a mess. I wasn't this bad with my other two.

Any suggestions

Ginger snaps worked for me. I think I may have had low blood sugar so it was probably more the sugar boost they gave me than any actual ginger in them. But they worked anyway. I kept a box with me at all times for the first 6 weeks or so.

Hi T.,

I was sick for my entire pregnancy with my second child. The doctor told me I could take OTC motion sickness pills. You have to try them out, though, because some of them can make you drowsy even if they are the non-drowsy kind.

Oh T.....I feel for you< I am in the same boat. I am 9 weeks prego and don't have another baby, but i am sooo sick too. I can't handle it at times, my doctor gave me Zofran (glad to hear the good responses to you about it) I feel so bad to take it cause I don't want to take it. I pray everynight it will go away. Hang in there.

Hi T.. Oh how I know what you're going through. I was sick 24/7 and so much so that I was in the hosptial at least 2 times a month. There is a special name for it. I was litterally vomiting and dry heeving. Nothing OTC worked either for me. The doctor's finally put me on Promethazine. I'll make you sleepy for the most part but oh how it helps. I mean smells even made me vomit. I had to sleep in a completely different room than my husband because his shower gel made me sick. Talk to your doctor about that.

Good Luck and I really do hope it gets better for you.

Only a few things helped me when I felt sick...potato chips (get ones that are low in fat and baked) and Japanese rice crackers. I would pop them in my mouth and would feel better instantly b/c they would keep my mouth dry and my saliva wouldn't feel "sticky" anymore. Candy and gum only helped for so long then the nausea would come back again. People have said ginger helps, but I've also read that too much isn't good for the baby and can cause a miscarriage. Everything in moderation. Sometimes you need carbs to give you energy b/c creating a life is hard work on your body. I remember eating a bowl of spaghetti with meat sauce and that helped for a good couple of hours. Lemon water may help as well. Good luck and hope you feel better soon! Take care!

Been there, I feel your pain! I was very sick with both of mine and my son was a little over a year when the pregnancy sickness with my daughter started! Ginger ale helps a bit. I got so sick and lost so much weight the doctors put me on an anti-nausea medication. They also had me taking 1/2 unisom. There is something in it that helps with nausea, if it is something you want to try I wopuld definately check with your doc first even though it is over the counter. My daughter is now 5 so it was a while ago, you never know what they find out about the meds from then to now! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Red raspberry pills by Nature's Sunshine worked for me. I would take 2 at night just before bed and after 3 days, my symptoms were gone! You can also make a tea out of the extract if you like.
Maybe getting some help so you can nap occasionally would be helpful as well (for the exhaustion part at least.)

make sure you keep a little something in your tummy at all times. I second the idea of the vitamin b-6. Try Ginger and/or peppermint tea.

I had good luck with Preggie Pops. Get the drops, not the lollipops, though (lollipops have horrible flavors ... I had to toss them all out). They were the only thing that worked for me. I've heard ginger in any form can help (tried them all but didn't work for me). Sea Bands worked with our first child but not with our second. They're accupressure bands you can find in the motion sickness section of the drug store.

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon.

I was pretty sick also and my doctor put me on Zofron (prescription) and this worked wonders. I would only take in when I felt sick and I would fill better in about 5-10 minutes.

I feel for you! My first pregnancy was like that, where I couldn't look at food without feeling sick. I kept some Saltines with me all the time - I ate one before getting out of bed in the morning, then would eat one at least every half hour. Just having that little something in my stomach kept me from throwing up most of the time.

Also I would eat pickled ginger. I know it sounds gross but it did help. And for some reason I could keep down oranges when nothing else would stay down.

I don't know if any of those will work for you, but I hope you find something that helps! Hang in there!

I feel for you! I was thrashed for the first half of the pregnancy. I took prescription Zofran. Zofran is actually designed for chemotherapy patients to deal with nausea as a side effect. My doctor assured me it was safe during pregnancy and my son was born with no problems.

T.,

I feel your pain. I had horrible morning sickness too! Here is what helped me:

Small frequent meals- 6X/day (I know the last thing you want to do is eat-but you have to for your baby-even if you throw up.)
Keep crackers by your bed and a glass of water. Before you even get out of bed,eat a few with water then get up. It helps!

Toast
Applesauce
Rice
bland foods
Small sips of water
Preggie Pops(you can buy them at Motherhood Maternity)
B-6vitamins
Ginger tea or pieces of ginger
diluted ginger ale
mint spray that I kept in my purse to put on my pulse points if something set me off on the smell, I would put that on and sometimes it would help.
Always keep a water bottle with you- and drink water throughout the day.

Hope you feel better soon- it will pass eventually.

The only thing that helped me was taking a vitamin B-6 supplement (in addition to my prenatal vitamin, which had only small amounts of B-6 in it). Check w/ your OB office for what daily dosage they generally recommend-- I think I took a total of 75 mg daily. You can also find info on the web if you google B-6 and morning sickness.

I was nauseous for 5 months. I only threw up though a couple of times in the beginning. I learned to control it. Listen to what your body is craving. If something looks good to you and you've never eaten it before try it. I never liked peppercinnis (sp) but I did when I was prego.
Also, my Dr. told me (not sure if this is really true or not) but the reason we throw up is lack of protein. Try eating a small amt of chicken at night before bed. It really helped me. The Dr said that pregnancy can either speed up the digestion or slow it down. So you need to play with certain foods to see if it works. She also said, it takes longer for your stomach to digest and then in the morning you should feel better. Then crackers and small meals but mostly meals with protein and see if that will make you feel better. It did with me. And I also messed around with foods to see what I could handle and what I couldn't. Good luck!

From someone who lost more than 10 pounds during the first trimester with both my kids, I feel your pain. Try sour candies. They make special preggie pops, but all they really are are sour hard candy. Don't know why it works, but it did help me. I also used sea bands with my first pregnancy, and I think they helped a little bit. Try not to let your stomach get completely empty. I found with a completely empty stomach I was more sick. I always had wheat thins or saltines in my purse, and took them everywhere with me. I never ate a lot in one sitting, just a couple at a time, but it prevented the acid in my stomach from churning so much. Your doctor can actually prescribe some medication, but since they can't promise it won't have any effect on the baby, I didn't want to take it. They basically explained that it won't cause birth defects, but no studies have been done on future health problems, so I was hesitant to take it. Good luck. I know it is harder when you have a little one to take care of, I found the second pregnancy worse than the first because I no longer had the option of laying down after work. Mine faded around 15 weeks, but they warn you when it is severe in the first trimester, it sometimes returns the 3rd trimester. Mine didn't, but I have heard of people who had it return. My doctor didn't worry too much about the weight loss, and I was more than able to make up the extra pounds the second and third trimesters.

As others have mentioned, saltine type crackers (I got the non-salted top ones as I do not like salty foods) helped tremendously. They absorbed lots of the acid in my stomach, which seemed to be what was really behind the nausea. Feeling nauseous and hungry at the same time happens to anyone with an acidic stomach, pregnant or not. I had experienced this prior to being pregnant, so when I felt sick during pregnancy, I treated it as I would an acidic stomach (minus the prilosec, I think). Dry toast, bananas (not green), and rice all helped me. Candied ginger helps with nausea, too, but use it in moderation as ginger can supposedly cause uterine contractions in large amounts (you might want to google this, as I never verified this info). My friend had much worse morning sickness than I and ended up on meds. However, she was throwing up every day at least once (had to pull to the side at the Bay Bridge toll plaza to puke, poor thing). My situation was not that severe. I hope you feel better soon!
