Hi Mamas!
Baby #2 is due in January, and with the holidays past I'm finally starting to 'get ready.' We have a baby monitor in our 2-year old's room (The First Years brand). It has one base and two receivers, and I wondering what to do for a second monitor for the baby. He will be in our bedroom, so we will use it during naps. I would like to have both on if both kids are napping at the same time during the day. But, is there any problem with interference between two monitors? Should we buy the same brand or a different brand to avoid interference? The two bedrooms are pretty close together. Thanks for the advice!!

We have one that can either stay on one room or scan 5 seconds each on all three kid's bedrooms. We love it. I would recommend looking into something like this. Then you only have one thing to be carrying around with you if both kids are napping at the same time. Good luck!

If I were you I would purchase a seperate brand, they would interfere with each other if you had two of the same, I am not awear of a brand that makes monitors for multi-room use. Good luck !

I know our monitor has two channels, A and B, and you have to have the base and reciever set on the same channel. If you have one that is like this you could by a second of the same brand and have one set on channel A and one set on channel B.

Ours is the fisher price "sounds n' lights" monitor. They are $25 dollars at target and it works great for our needs. I picks up sounds really well too, I can hear her breathing at night and the base is about 6-feet from her head.

I suggest that you contact First Brands company for expert advice. You may be able to do this over the Internet, via e-mail, or there may be a customer service phone # on the set that you have.

When I had my second, my first was just 20 months old. I needed a monitor in both rooms too. Instead of trying various models to find ones that didn't interfere, I splurged for a double video monitor from Bebe Sounds. It comes with two small cameras and one handheld/table monitor screen receiver thing that can view/hear both rooms simultaneously or just one if you want. I LOVE IT! Worth every penny. I searched the web and found it for just over $200 I think.

There are monitors that work in two different rooms. I'm not sure of the brands but I remember seeing them when I was looking last year!

There's no guarantee that the same brand monitor will not create interference. That's just the way electronics work.

I threw away one monitor and bought a second because I thought something was wrong with it. It was actually my neighbor's 2 houses away that I was receiving. With the second monitor (happened to be the same brand as hers) I could hear her rocking chair squeek when she rocked her daughter. I knew when the kids were up too. My house is pretty small, and I work in the room next to my son's so I got rid of the monitor because I just couldn't listen to my neighbor's conversations.

Good luck with Baby Boy.

If you have the money, I know they have monitors made for two rooms at the same time. It checks between the two and focuses on the room making the most noise.

We had some problem with interference with our next door neighbors' monitor (actually they kept hearing our baby's cries and thinking it was their toddler's!), but if we keep them on 2 separate channels it works fine. As someone else recommended, keeping 2 monitors on 2 separate channels should work (you'll just need to try it out and see which settings don't interfere with each other).
We'll need 2 monitors ourselves starting in April so I'll be curious to see what works for you and others.
