Moms with Keratosis Pilaris

Hello everyone - I was just wondering if there are any other moms out there with Keratosis Pilaris. I've had KP since I was a child and after having my son 9 months ago, I've noticed that it's gotten worse. They're little red bumps (like permanent goosebumps or "chickenskin"), it's said to be hereditary (my father has KP) and there's no cure for it. It's most commonly found on the outsides of your arms but since having Amari, it's seems to be spreading everywhere.

Since there is no cure, I wanted to ask if anyone's tried anything to help reduce the redness and bumpiness. I do use Ammonium Lactate lotion that my dermatologist prescribed but I can't really notice any improvement. Is there anything else that could help...home remedies...anything. I just pray that my son doesn't get this from me!

I have a touch of this on the backs of my arms and now on my legs after my 3rd pregnancy. My daughter has it as well but much worse. I feel horrible for 'giving' it to her!

I have used Alpha Hydrox lotion on my arms and while it doesn't happen overnight, my bumps on my arms do actually go away if I use it consistently (every morning). But like I said, mine is not super bad on my arms. I use the lotion on my daughter now, who is 2.5 yo. I was concerned using it before now, it would sting but she has no complaints. It does reduce her bumps but not as significantly as it does for me. :(

I find it at Ulta for about $10 a bottle. Only a little is needed so it lasts me a while. Here's the website so you know what you are looking for. Good luck!!

(I realize this is a facial lotion but it works on my arms!)

I also had this more so when I was pregnant.
I still have some left on both arms.
I scrub evry day with Aveeno oatmeal scrub in the bath.
You can also use any gentle brand..I think softsoft has a coconut/oatmeal. It seems to slough off the tops of them at least. It is not removed but less red,and less apparent.
I also noticed the sun helps to dry them out a bit and then use the scrubs afterward in shower. Hope that gives a little relief. I have used the scrubs every day now and have a noticed a slight differnce. Good luck

I have this too, and it actually went away when I was pregnant, probably because while I was putting cream on my belly every day to combat stretch marks, I went ahead and put it on my arms as well. Regular hand lotions don't help. Mine problem is mild I guess, but annoying and I think unsightly. I never knew it had a name until now.

I can't really help other than to say the cream I used on my belly (and therefore my arms) was Kiehl's Creme De Corps. I think the daily, sometimes twice a day, application helped keep it at bay. But I want to say "Thank You" for your question, because that helped me!

I have bumps on the back of my arms that itch. I've never been diagnosed with anything, but I read somewhere that they are a result of allergies. Since mine clear up at certain times of the year, I am inclined to believe that. I will be seeing my allergist about getting back on my allergy shots and see what happens.

I never had them until I developed allergies in my late 20's. As my allergies have gotten worse, so have the bumps.

It might be something to look into. I didn't know I had allerrgies since I didn't have the usual, typical symptoms of sneezing and so forth.

My symptoms were fatigue, sinus infections, and sometimes itchy eyes.

Can't hurt to explore that option if what you speak of is the same.

Yes I have this and have had it all my life on my arms and calves in the winter. My poor daughter has it worse than i do though. We have tried just about everything for her and this is what we have done so far.

Eucerine calming creme-but not the regular Eucerine you have to get the really thick one for skin repair. This worked for about a year then stopped. Now we are trying vani cream you can get at walgreens. It is keeping it under control for now, but i am sure it is just a matter of time.

Unfortunatly the Am Lactin lotions never worked for us, and my daughter would scream sometimes because it burned. I stopped using that after the first time.

I feel your pain. I've had it too since was about 10 years or so old. As I got older it got worse and got worse when I got pregnant too! Yes, this is suppose to be herediatary. I was the only one to get this though. However, after my sister had her second child she got it too on her arms. So I definately know and see firsthand that pregnancy affects keratosis pilaris.

As for a cure I don't have one yet. My dermatologist recommended Urea cream which I've been using for past couple months and it hasn't helped yet. It also stings if I use it right after shaving. I'm going to try amlactin which you can get behind the pharmacy counters - you don't need prescription. Maybe I'll try Eucerin cream since this is a very thick moisturizer. Moisturizng is suppose to help. My dermatologist also recommended these intense moisturizing treatments but they cost @$100 each and she wants me to go every other week for a few month months and then after that once a month. Expensive! But if it works then it's worth the price to me. She said she seen the keratosis pilaris almost go away with these treatments.

My daughter has that. Amlactin seems to work pretty well. We're not always consistent with it. It says to use it twice a day and we only use it a few times a week, but the bumps have really diminished.
Her KP on her arms can be really severe, so we're happy to have something that at least calms it a bit.

I am a sufferer too and unfortunately, my 4 year old daughter has developed it as well :(

Anyway, I have seen a dermatologist and what has helped me is using a body polish I use Amazing Grace by Philosophy, a thick moisturizer-skin repair...some mentioned in the previous posts are good. My dermatologist has given me Salekera cream which is a perscription (It has helped with exfoliating and reducing redness and bumps...then I use the thick moisturizer over that) While not gone away I am able to wear short sleeve shirts without being embarassed. Hope this helps

I have it and it got worse after both pregnancies(despite the dermatologist saying it had nothing to do with it)! What works best for me is Aveda Smoothing Body Polish and Replenishing Body Moisturizer. You can buy online at aveda.com or at an aveda salon or store. I know everyone is different but they have worked for me!

Okay so this is going to sound strange... but it is due to an allergy in something. My daughter had it and my husband had it. They went into a doc(chiropractor)that treats with NAET (Nambudripads Allergy Elimination Treatment) and it's helped a ton! You can check to see if you have anyone near you that treats it by going to the website
www.naet.com
They have a database of docs that have taken the courses all over. Google NAET if you want to learn more about it. there are books on it that you can buy at borders or on the naet website. There are tons of cases of allergies being resolved with this technique. It's strange but worth a look. Good luck!!

Try looking it up on earthclinic.com. They have some great remedies - I'm currently curing my daughter's warts with banana peel. We're down to about 20 quickly shrinking warts - she started with almost 40!!!

Hope this helps!

I have had keratosis for my entire life. It has spread from my arms to my thighs. I recently had allergy testing and discovered several foods that I am highly allergic to (bananas, pineapple, broccoli, etc). I have avoided these foods. I have also started to use MSM cream. I am not sure which is working, but my keratosis is so much better. I am amazed. My arms look wonderful. MSM cream is natural and can be found online. I would recommend this to anyone.
