My 9-mo. old son has never lost the cradle cap- he's my 3rd, and the gently long and many-toothed brush for the bath we'd used on the 1st 2 was never found for this little guy and "floating" it off while bathing per the ped.'s suggestion is too time-consuming and little progress has been made. Please help! I don't want him turning 1 still w/ cradle cap!
Try olive oil - rub it on gently, let it sit for a few minutes, and then use one of the soft-bristled baby brushes & rub gently in circles with it. You'll have to do it several times to make it all go away (depending on how bad it is) but it does work!
My son was born with cradle cap & we tried a bunch of different things, but the only thing that finally worked was the olive oil.
Good luck!

you can try olive oil or gentle naturals for cradle cap. i've had good results with the gentle naturals. you can buy it at CVS or target. target also has a brush/baby bather by the red cross. the brush works wonders in loosening the scales up.
good luck!

I have 3 kids (8,3 & 4months) and ALL my kids have had cradle cap problems really BAD. I must say that when my oldest had this problem his doctor, at that time, told us to do the baby oil thing too. DO NOT DO THAT! Cradle cap is caused by oil build up from the scalp and this will only make things worse. My oldest ended up loosing all of his hair because the cradle cap got so bad with the baby oil. (But it crew back after we fault and fault with it .)then when my 2nd was born she got it too after a few months. What her doctor said to use is Selsum blue and I highly recommend it and it helps. You only need a pea size amount and use once a week. Make sure you don't get it in their eyes otherwise you will have a screaming baby afterwards. IT helps and now I am currently using it for my 4 month old son. Hope this helps and I wish you and your family a safe and Happy Holiday.

My daughter, who is now six months old had the most stubborn case of cradle cap. My pediatrician suggested using hydrocortizon on her scalp 3 - 4 times a day. I did and within a week the cradle cap was gone.

Well for my son, I used baby oil after his bath. It can get greasy but it worked. Put the baby oil on the infected area and gently rub it in with a baby hair brush.

Hi J.. My daughter had cradle cap as well. My doctor told me to put olive oil on it. That didn't made sense to me but I tried it anyway. I guess the point was to moisten it so then it would wash out. After that failed, my aunt told me to use Head & Shoulders shampoo. After all it is made for flaky, dandruff scalp. That did work. I would only use it about once a week since she was a baby, but after about three tries it was all gone.
I certainly hope this helps you.

Start with some baby oil on the scalp. Massage it in a few minutes. Then use a soft baby brush to brush away any loose pieces. Follow that us with a wash using Head and Shoulders shampoo. It should clear within a week or two.

Get a little brush & massage olive oil in his hair. Then rinse it out & shampoo as normal. You might have to do it a couple of times. I have several friends that swear by this.

I LOVE Mustela products. They have a foam shampoo for newborns that gets rid of and prevents cradle cap. You have to leave it on for a minute or two. It got rid of my daughters problem in 2 shampoos! On the plus side it doesnt sting, smells wonderful and it is designed for baby which I felt more comfortable with compared to adult dandruff shampoos. Bellacare, Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us all carry it. Good luck!

When my daughter had cradle cap, her pediatrician told me to get Selsun Blue. I did and it was very effective and quick to get rid of it. I am glad it was quick, too cause, unfortunately, it made my sweet smelling baby daughter's smell like OLD MAN. But, it DID work. Good luck!

Try using pure olive oil. Just put it on the baby's scalp and comb though their hair gently. This worked wonders when my daughter was a baby, plus it's a safe and chemical free way of removing the cradle cap.

Head and Shoulders does work nicely but you have to be careful not to get it in their eyes. You may try olive oil. A little more natural and it won't hurt the eyes! A.

Just got out my Wise Woman herbal reference book to see if there was addtional info. other than the oil already mentioned.
Rub Oak bark infusion, Witch Hazel bark infusions, or black tea into your child's scalp several times a day. The astringent tannins will help slow down the overproduction of oil.
Feel free to contact me if you'd like more info. or more natural remedies.

My daughter had terrible cradle cap. The only thing that worked for us was a product I found at Target. I don't recall what the name was but it was a green bottle, with Winnie the Pooh on it. I believe Johnson & Johnson made it. We put it on my daughter's head each night during bath time. After she got out, we combed her hair and slowly, the stuff started coming off. By about two weeks, it was virtually gone.

Two of my 5 had cradle cap.....we just used the mildest
medicated shampoo we could find. Washed their hair everyother
day and in a couple of weeks....it was gone. I just used a
washcloth that had been "hung out to dry" to dry their hair afterwards. It was perfect for gently exfoliating their
tender little scalp.

Hi
My mom is a nurse and when my son had a little problem with this she recommended baby oil and a fine tooth comb. The oil moisturizes their scalp while combing the crusty stuff loose.
This helped for us and I hope it helps you.

Hi J.,
Our third also had it really bad and when we asked the Pediatrician he said to use Head n Shoulders. Massage it into the scalp and let it sit for a few and then rinse. It really helped and went away within a few weeks. We did usually comb it out immediately after with a fine tooth comb. Hope this helps and works.

One of my daughters had it pretty bad on her forhead, and I was told by someone to use a dry washcloth with a bit of vegetable oil on it, and just kind of rub it off. It worked perfectly! And didn't return...maybe give it a try?
