So, I have this flannell dovet cover or however you spellit. and it was on the bottom of a never ending clothes pile. I have three boys myself a hub and house mate. so we are a never ending cycle of cleans and dirties. my poor dovet cover though, our dry went dead so we have been having to laundro-mate it. which has been nice but not. this cover has mold on it. it musr have had something wet spilled on it for a while. i washed it today and dried it on high high heat. and it still is gross. is it a total loss or does anyone have any help tips? i will literally bring me to tears to toss it. i love it.

If it is just smell, you may want to try washing it with vinegar. If it is stained, it may be done for.

I soak in white vinegar, and use it in the rinse cycle instead of fabric softener (removes smell of mold) and I've heard that for black mold stains you can soak with lemon juice and leave it in the sun to dry and it will remove the stain or at least greatly reduce it. But since ur in WA too that means you'll have to wait till summer for a sunny day :(

In my experience black mold is just about the death of a fabric. Your only hope that I know of are the vinegar/lemon juice and sun ideas. I've tried many other things on my mold stains, but nothing worked. Now we just have a rule that no wet items can be dumped - they MUST be hung up to dry or immediately washed.

Try Bac out! It's awesome and works great on molds and mildews especially if it's just odor issues. Plus it is eco-friendly, non-toxic and won't harm your fabrics. You can get it here:

They have the best prices and every size bottle you could need.

Carefully wash it in a little bleach-if the bleach is combined well in the water-it will fade a little overall and will probably take care of the mold.

Vineager is good at loosening the stains. I use Ecover stain remover. It works really well. I also use a gall bladder soap I get from Europe to remove stains that have grease in them and have been through the drier.
My mother uses a brown soap (Fels Naptha) and lemon to get out stains of all sorts. She soaks them.
So there you have it.

Use a cup of white vinegar in the wash, then dry in the sun.
