If they ask for money RUN THE OTHER WAY!!! A reputable modeling company will NOT make you pay them to have your child model. They would take their cut from the money your child earns from the modeling jobs.
Hi,
Does anyone out there have kids that model for print or commercials? I had never considered this until I got a letter in the mail and now my son has an appointment with a personal management firm for modeling. I'm pretty skeptical about it but I figured it can't hurt to go ahead with the appointment. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experiences with this, good or bad, they'd like to share. Thanks!
I am so thankful for Mamasource! I checked out Channel 4's website and found the investigation on Kids.com. I cancelled our appointment and should've listened to my instincts! Thanks again for your responses!

No personal experience but don't pay them a cent. You may need to pay to have photos taken but nothing more from what I gather from doing research.
Was it a generic letter that said something like, "Your child caught our attention?" Don't go. We got a letter like that about a year ago. We went and it was basically trying to sell us their services and MAYBE our son would get some modeling work. It seemed like a total scam and the guy was kind of shifty. I can't remember the name of the firm, but if it's in Minneapolis off of France Ave., it's the same place. They send out thousands of these letters based only on demographic information--like you have a 2-4 year old child. We received an identical letter when my second son turned 2. I'd reconsider.
Channel 4 news did a investigation of this company that sends out letters to parents. The whole thing is a big scam. They will show you all these kids that have gotten modeling work, but it is just a scam. I wouldn't even go, if you do go, do not give them any money. I'm not sure why the Better Business Bureau hasn't shut them down. They would probably just keep opening tho under different names.
