hi there, i recently talked to someone and they told me their kid was completely normal until about 2 years old when they became autistic - she belives its from the vaccinations mainly mmrb. does anyone know anything on this or any good websites to research, we have a 7 month old and she has had 3 sets of shots so far and i'm afraid to go any further or what to do. my husbands family has autism in his family -
thanks.

just to be clear - there is STILL MERCURY in some of the vaccines - ask your pediatrician it goes under the name Thimersol.
I am not saying that there has been a link proven as there hasnt to my knowledge just wanted to correct the writer that stated Mercury is out of all shots.
All flu shots have it.
I personally have cosen to delay vaccines and give only some. You can get a lit of vaccines needed from your pediatrician and google each one... read what the CDC has to say as well as parents and read the studies - there is a LOT of info out there from various sources some is quite shocking. Good Luck.
There is an amazing amount of information on this subject. I would sit down and talk seriously with your pediatrician. My understanding is they have not officially causally linked the vaccine to autism, however in kids that are genetically predisposed it may contribute. Generally children cannot be diagnosed until around the time the MMR vacine is given. Do some reseach and then get your DRs. opinion. You can do a delayed vaccine schedule as well.
there is no scientific proof that any vaccine causes autism..
it was thought that the mercury in vaccines caused autism.. but in europe they took the mercury out of vaccines years ago and the cases of autism continue to rise. so the mercury cannot be the problem.
we also took mercury out of our vaccines in teh USA.
You can delay vaccines. Dont get the MMR vaccine until your child is old 3 or 4..
you can also split the MMR -- just get the measles portion and get the mumps portion later.
I got all of the vaccines for my child -- except the chicken pox.. and the hepatitis A-- The chicken pox vaccine is not very effective.. I hope she gets chicken pox naturally...
the hepatitis A is quite rare in this area.. so I didnt feel like my child needed the vaccine. She can always get these shots later.
I have a 20-month-old son, diagnosed with autism two months ago (he's too young to have a spectrum-specific diagnosis, i.e., severity). I cannot specifically say that his vaccines did it. He's had all his recommended shots for his age. My son was exhibiting signs of autism from about 10 months old through to about 17 months when we decided to have him evaluated. I've read extensively on the subject and believe that some people are genetically predisposed to autism, and that there are probably numerous triggers. For some kids, it's a vaccination, for others, it's food allergies or some other toxin/chemical in our environment, or perhaps physical or emotional trauma. There are some cases that I've read about where it is CLEAR that a vaccination caused autism (one day he's fine, he has the shot, and the next day he's autistic), but in our case, we can't be sure. Tacanow.org is a great resource, as is autismspeaks.org. Jenny McCarthy is a great resource for the vaccination debate (she believes, even though mercury has been taken out of the majority of vaccines, that there are too many, too soon), just google her name and autism and there will be many articles to sift through. Good luck; it's a tough issue to wade through and decide on.
What I have read is that the signs for autism and the mmr shots are around the same time so many doctors feel that the shots do not give them autism; it is a coincidence.
I have read Jenny McCarthy's take and I recommend reading up about it on her website. In my opinion do what is in your heart. Ask your doctor about an alternative schedule (check out Dr. Sears).
I wish you luck - it is a tough decision to make.
Everything I heard says that the signs for autism and the mmr shots are around the same time so many doctors feel that the shots alone do not give them autism; it is a coincidence.
Which is what Evelyn M said. I agree, do your own research and follow your heart. Call your doctor and ask them their opinion. Since you say your husbands family has autism you really need to do some research and follow what your heart says! Good luck.
