Hello Moms,
My son is coming up o his 15 month vaccinations, one of which is the MMR vaccine.
I prefer for him to receive the MMR as individual injections and not as a cocktail, unfortunately our current medical clinic does not offer this but is supportive for me to go elsewhere.

Do you know of a medical clinic who offers the individual injections?
I am also interested in hear your view on how best to give other vaccinations.

Thank you for your time.
L.

I asked this same question in July on this site. I think you can search in the archives to get all the answers b/c they were very helpful!!!!!

We went to Group Health since that happened to be our new plan. I called ahead to the injection room and they told me they had the single dose vials available. Sometimes they are out and reordering. Each shot is given 30 days apart.

I remember people mentioned naturopaths by Evergreen Hospital and others that can help you.

If you have trouble finding the blog, let me know and I'll help you.

Hi,
My children go to Everett clinic where they don't offer individual MMR injections. They did refer me to the Lynnwood public health clinic where my 12mo got her first mumps shot there and did fine. You do have to pay out of pocket, maybe some insurace companies cover it but not all of them do ($49.00 or so). Hope this helps.

I tried doing the split and 1/2 shots about 14 years ago for my first...pediatricians didn't like it but complied. I later learned more about vaccines and didn't vaccinate my second. There is a great difference between them in development and abilities I know is due to this.

Be well,

We go to pediatrics associates. They offer both the individual injections as well as the "coctail". I did not want to do the cocklail either. I was worried about side effects and I knew that in the past, my kids had been fine with the singles, so I wanted to stick with what I knew was OK and not worry about something new and different effecting them differently.

The main problem with the MMR shot in the past was Thimerosol, which is 50% mercury. If there is no mercury in the shot, there shouldn't be a problem. I think they stopped doing that (and people ask me why I don't trust doctors)

I've been told (by my current pediatrician at Pediatric Associates) that the state of WA does not provide the separated MMR shots - I lived in California until Nov, and was getting the separate shots for my two older girls. I now have a NB son. If you find a place, i'm interested to know where it is.

Good luck!!

If anyone would know about individual immunizations for Measles, Mumps, &/or Rubella my suspicion would be 1)Childrens' Hospital, or 2)the Department of Health (where you have to go to get many immunizations that clinics don't usually carry before you travel).

What I don't know for certain, is if they are even on the market individually in this country. I DO know that in countries like Great Britain, who have healthcare for all, it's only offered as the MMR, but one can purchase the individual Measles/Mumps/Rubella shots privately. While the government debated offering the shots individually, they found by looking at other times over the past 20 years when they altered their immunization plans in the face of a public fear of "x" (egg allergies, downs syndrom, etc.) that they had a HUGE drop in the number of children getting immunized at all, versus times when they kept the program as is, but offered whatever alternative privately. <grinning> So we do know that they're MADE...perhaps a last ditch effort could be a vacation to London. Not meaning to make light of the problem, but at least we know it's possible SOMEWHERE, so hopefully it's possible here, too!

Latest numbers say that 45.7 million Americans don't have health insurance of any kind (including State medical coupons, etc.) Another 83 million are covered under State & emergency programs...so good on you for trying to get your wee one out of risk for dieing of these diseases. Soooooo many kids aren't getting their shots these days (either out of parent choice, or there being flat out no money to see the Dr.), that the risk is a lot greater of contracting one of these illnesses today then even 10 years ago. I've see measles and mumps in my travels, and they're devastating.

I wish you luck & speed in your search!!
