Mirena Removal/getting Pregnant

I've had my mirena IUD for about 3 1/2 years now & I am going to get it removed May 18th to try and conceive my 3rd child. However, I've been doing research and alot of people have said that they either couldn't get pregnant after having it removed or that they've had miscarriages. Has this every happened to any of you or anyone you know? Or has anyone been able to get pregnant right away? I never had a problem getting pregnant with my two children so I hope it's the same in this case, but I'm just curious.

What can I do next?

My sister was told to wait three months/three normal cycles before trying to conceive. She got pregnant almost as soon as the waiting period was over and has a beautiful 18mos old son!

Well, I got pregnant WITH the Mirena (ectopic). I never actually *tried to get pregnant after that, but I did about a year later, and with only one fallopian tube. So, no, I don't believe the Mirena caused any drop in my fertility!

I was also pregnant about 3 months after having the Paraguard removed - also without actually trying.

I had the Mirena after my first child (nov 2006 i had it put in) and it worked well for me except the fact that I gained weight on it. I had it removed sep 2007. After i had it removed we used condoms until we were ready for our next child. We started trying (not very seriously tho) winter of 2007 and i didnt get pregnant until sep 2008. With my first it took 3 months and my 3rd was instant. So who knows. Maybe it had something to do with the mirena and maybe it was just me! Good Luck!

I had the Mirena for about 18 months, had it removed on a Thursday and started my period on a sunday...got pregnant about 2 weeks later! Even the doctors were shocked with how quickly we got pregnant. However, mine ended in a miscarriage (my first). I went back on birth control for about 5 months and then came off of it to try again and we are currently pregnant again. I am 11 weeks and so far everything is good. I can't say it was the Mirena that caused the miscarriage though. I personally believe it was stress related because I had a lot going on within my family at the time. However, stress hasn't scientifically been proven to cause miscarriage. Good luck!

I got mine out on Aug 16th, started my period on the 18th (normal time of the month) and conceived on Sept 1st. I had my Mirena for a couple years and didn't have a period with it.

That's how it worked for me.

I have the Mirena, but plan to keep it until I decide to use permanent birth control. However I do have several online friends and real life friends who have become pregnant without any problems getting pregnant right away after having it removed and without miscarrying those pregnancies. A couple had miscarriages in subsequent pregnancies due to other issues (problems with the pregnancy itself or the fetus).

I used the pill for years before trying for my first son, and I was pregnant within the month. After he was born, I had the Mirena inserted. Over three years later, I had it removed, so we could have another child. It took me about five months to get pregnant that time. However, I chalk it up to being older (over thirty), and my husband's work schedule being too busy for us to really try hard. ;) I've never heard of it being the cause of miscarriages AFTER it was taken out, though. Good luck!

My sister had it removed in January, after having it in for over 4 years. And in April she found out she was pregnant. The key thing to remember is to wait a few period cycles to pass so that it is regulated. And then off you go with the baby making process! :)

I had the Mirena IUD for 18 months and then had it removed to conceive my 2nd child. I got pregnant within 3 months and had no problems. My friend had the IUD for 5 years and conceived her 3rd child without a problem. You'll probably be fine, especially since your first two were easy to conceive. Good luck! :)
