I hate pumping. I despise pumping. It's time consuming, messy, and frusterating. I want to sleep at 10pm, not pump! Arrg, I'm over it! Ok, not really, but it's a pain in my patooty and I can't really find any good tips on the actual pumping. I get increasing my milk production, I get relaxing. I don't get pumping. Last week my mom had to give my DD formula becasue I just can't get enough milk! GRRRRR! I have a Medela Pump-n-style so I'm pretty sure it isn't the pump, it's me!
This is my schedule, so I have to pump, hence my frusturation:
M Work 11-3:30
T Home
W Home
Th Home
F Home
Sa Work 7-7
Su Work 7-7
What are your best tips? What about soft cup breast shields?

What can I do next?

First of all, good for you for being so dedicated!! I didn't mind the pumping (though I did sort of feel like a cow), but I didn't have to do it so regularly. Some people just don't make a ton of milk...don't beat yourself up about it! It is okay to do formula when you are at work--you shouldn't feel so bad--they make formula that is very close to breastmilk now. Think of how it was when we were kids...my mother in law told me she used to give my husband evaporated milk from a can!!! And he's fine (mostly! haha)!
I would say, use what you pump when you are at work for that long stretch on the weekends (I assume you must have to pump then) and then supplement with formula the rest of the time...and go to bed at 10:00pm if you are tired. :)

Don't sweat it and drop the pump! I only pumped when I felt riduculously full and knew there would not be relief from my son or daughter or when I was away from them! The last couple months of maternity leave, I tried the extra pumping thing to make sure we had some in the freezer - so I feel your pain - I hated it and dropped it as soon as I had about 15 bottles in the freezer. Pumping at work or after a dinner out - that was easy and made sense to me. So, your daughter gets some formula....if she's still getting the majority of her nourishment from breast milk, you're doing a great job!

I agree that you are doing a great job if the majority of the nourishment is from breast milk. It does NOT hurt your child to have formula sometimes. I stressed about the same thing when I was nursing, but felt much better when I relaxed and used formula when needed. I pumped at work a couple times a day (8-hr/day full-time schedule). If I drank a lot of water, I produced tons of milk. I used the same type of breast pump as you, and learned that if I pushed on my breasts with the "pump cups" it went a lot faster. You'd have to try it to see what position works the best for you and maybe that will help. It worked best for me to press on the bottom of my breasts with the bottom of the cups (like a push-up bra). It seems strange, but it worked great! I didn't even have to make the machine pump hard (that hurt!).

Like said before try not to stress your doing great :) I understand the stresses of pumping, and this advice may seem primal and even gross to some , however, I could never get any pump to work. Even when I was in the hospital the nurses couldn't help me to get their fancy machine to work.. so I hand pumped it hurt less and I got more milk...
Best wishes!

With my first, the only thing that worked was to pump before he ate in the morning. The result was probably that teh frozen milk didn't have much hind milk, but I had milk on hand. Even if he ate right after, he was always satisfied. Later in the day never worked for me.
