Having a baby is a beautiful experience if no complications arise. The philosophy of midwives is a good one however in case of an emergency a hospital with a fully trained staff may be necessary.I know a midwife who has been practicing a long time and has a good reputation however she does not do home deliveries, her name is Clarissa Carbo and i believe she is in the South Miami Baptist area. Good Luck

Florida has a law where insurances including medicaid have to pay no matter where the woman decides to give birth.

My LM was Mary Harris from www.alovingstart.com

Hi,
I used Sheila Watson (just off US1 in Palmetto Bay/ Miami) for both of my deliveries at home. Several of my friends have used her for their births too. She can also recomend some hospital type midwives if you want to go that route. I had a hospital birth too (naturally) & I would never go that route again unless absolutely necessary. by the way, my insurance covered everything & I asked them about it before I got coverage - no problem. good luck! I'll be the third here to respond with Miami Maternity Center, they are all midwives, great facility close to 95 in North Miami, and yes they accept Medicaid, insurance or cash ($6,000 for everything). If you use a midwife use Sheri Daniells and her staff at Miami Maternity, she has delivered tens of thousands of babies in 8 different countries. There is no one better prepared. She delivered my baby two years ago, which was a complicated delivery. These women are the best in the United States, and the distances their clients come from attest to that. Oh yes, you can see her on the Discovery Channel too!

You might look into the Miami Maternity Center. That's where I had my son and it was a great experience. Their web site is www.miamibirth.com. They charged a flat fee that was a lot less than I expected and I believe they will work with your insurance. Oh, and they're all women. Also, you can have the baby at their facility or talk to them about having a home birth. They are 6 minutes away from a hospital in case there are complications. The head midwife, Shari, has delivered over 10,000 babies - she's amazing. Check them out, they really know their stuff!

Shari Daniels at Miami Maternity Center is by far the BEST! If medicaid doesn't want to pay she will make them. Whatever the rules...I had both my children with her on Medicaid. One was a waterbirth and the other preferred another way. She can handle anything and her wisdom abounds. She and her staff are ALWAYS available and going in for checkups is fun because you get to go hang out at "her house" with a bunch of other pregnant people and babies. She has a playground outside for your bigger kids. She makes you want to do it natural, and to do it again and again because its so rewarding.

To my understanding insurance doesn't cover mid wives because they consider birthing at home high risk. If you call your insurance company and ask them do not give your name just ask the question. You don't want them to have you on record asking.

D., I thank God 7 year ago when my third boy was born, the reason why is because the baby was bridge, that means his feets went out firs; at higth risk. The moment my baby was aut the Neonatologist (docto who is speciallis in new borns) were there, the machines to provide him the oxigen and everythig he needs was there in the hospiital and with the rigth persons to take care of my baby. Thank God I did the correct choice to have my precious kids in the hospital withthe best doctor ever.
