Michigan Adventure - Trip Advice

Hello,

We are considering going to Michigan Adventure in Muskegon for the first time this summer, and I have a couple of quick questions. (By "we", I mean myself, my husband, and my two kids, ages 3 and 4 1/2.)

I believe it would be a 3-hour drive for us. To keep costs down, I was thinking we could just make it a one-day/night visit instead of two. Is that do-able, or should it really be broken down into a 2-day visit? I just don't know how big the park is and I don't want us to be rushed and miss out on anything.

Lodging: I usually prefer to plan ahead of time, but because this is an outdoor thing, I was thinking I could wait until a few days prior before planning our trip to make sure we would have nice weather (like, I could wait until Wednesday before booking a hotel for that upcoming Friday and/or Saturday.) Do you think all the hotels would be booked by then, or are there enough hotels available in the area that I shouldn't have a problem booking a room? We wouldn't be staying there on a holiday weekend, so that would hopefully increase our chances of finding a room.

Speaking of hotels: is there any specific hotel you would love to recommend, or advise against? Thank you!

D.

I think it will depend on what you want to do there. Are you doing theme and water park or just water, just theme. If you plan on doing both it can be done in one day but you might feel rushed. But it can be done. Also depending on the weekend, if it's not a holiday or something like summer celebration going on you could probably not even book ahead and get a place that night if you wanted to stay. Another option is camping there is a camp ground next to the MIA. Hope this helps.

I lived in Musekgon for 18 years, just recently moved back to this area 3 hours away, visited Michigan Adventure reguarly. Very doable 1 day thing. This park may be owned by Cedar Point but is the mini version. Great waterpark lots of pools and wave pools and waterslides. Hotels I would recomend is downtown Holiday Inn or Shoreline Inn right on the waterfront of Muskegon Lake. There is some outside of town but you get what you pay for and the downtown ones are pretty average prices. If you have any other intersts you may want to check out in Muskegon or surounding areas let me know and I would be happy to direct you. Some weekends can be busy for hotels such as now with Summer Celebration going on or the Miss Michigan weekend but you should always be able to get a room. Grand Haven is only 20 mins south too and they have at least 6-8 hotels right off 31 too so you wouldn't have to drive too far to get a room. Have Fun!

it is doable, when we have gone we have spent the majority of the day in the theme park part as it has rained or been chilly so I'm not sure how much time most people would spend in the water park area......I also believe you can do the trip without spending the money on a hotel, yes it is a long day but the park closes realatively early......if I go this year I am doing it without an overnight and I am also around 3 hours away

We also live about 3 hours from Mi Adventure. When my daughter was little we went twice and had a great time! There is lots for younge ones to do. We just did a one day thing both times-I mean drove there and back in one day, no overnighter. This was 6-7 years ago but it was definitely do-able!

Hi D.,
Michigan Adventure is very do-able in an one day visit. I would not do two days.
As far as hotel, yes, it could be busy. Muskegon, Grand Haven, and Holland are all very close together, and all very popular spots along Lake MI. Also, the Muskegon celebration is now until July 4, so it would be a hard time to get a hotel.
Hope this helps! Have fun!

I took my kids there two years ago and they were 14 and 12. We had a beautiful day of weather. Since your children are much younger, they probably will get worn out quicker.

However, thinking of you and your husband and having to drive home after a day of fun, you may want to get a hotel/motel room. It's less stress on you. We stayed at a Best Western (I believe) and it was clean and reasonable.

There was some time of festival on the weekend so we went during the week as all the hotels were booked. So depending on when you want to go you will want to check availability.

Hope this helps

O.k. I will go opposite of what most have said. We took our then 5-year-old last summer and were glad we took 2 days. We spent the first day just going through the regular park. My son likes to ride some rides over and over again! The second day we went to the water park and then rode a few of the rides again before leaving. I suppose we could have done it in one day, but we like to take our time and, like I said, there were some repeats that we went on several times.

I don't remember what hotel we stayed in, but if you go to mapquest you can pull up the area and it can show you area hotels/motels.

One thing that we liked it there was a waterbottle with a twist on cap that we bought that could be refilled all day for free. We found it worth the money because when it got warm we just dumped it and got a cold beverage again.

HAVE FUN!!!

That is a long day for the parents. However it opens at 10 or 11 and by 5 or 6 you'll be done. I love the park. We do the rides before lunch and then have a picnic in the parking lot area and change into swim gear. So if you leave at 7 AM with a light breakfast. Eat a snack at 10. Then lunch around 1 or 2. That's been our plan. We usually camp and like the WhiteRiver Campground. They have cabins as well and it's very economical.

D., A 1 day trip may be very exhausting for your little ones and yourself..I used to work at my cousins Lodge near by in Twin Lake and we always advised our guests to visit the park Mon, Tues, or Wed. they seem to be the least busy then....

I live about 5 minutes from Michigans adventure and there are plenty of hotels and motels closer than Muskegon or Grand Haven,,

About 10 minutes north of the park is Whitehall, a small town that is worth visiting.....check out www.whitelake.org if you would like to see what there is to offer there....I know there are many hotels and motels there , and even a couple larger ones like Best Western...

Hope I could be of some help....

Have a fun and safe trip....

You will be able to visit all of the attractions in one day. I think you may spend most of your time in the water park. There are not ANY hotels that are necessarily "nearby"....if you want to pack coolers you can exit the park and then re-enter. If lil ones still nap/need to unwind from all of the excitement etc.
Depending on what time you leave-I would say that the trip could be done in one day! Maybe exhausted but is there a possibility of maybe staying in a room halfway home? Summer Celebration is going on in downtown Muskegon but there may still be rooms available at the Shoreline Inn. I love that hotel! Right onthe water and beautiful! Hope this helps. Please let me know how your trip turns out!!
