Mentally Tired or Physically Tired, Which Is Worse for You?

I have been both, and hands down, being mentally tired is far harder for me to deal with than being physically tired. I've been working on some mentally taxing material, and all I want to do is close my eyes and drift off to another place! If I'm physically tired, I could read a book or something before feeling tired enough to sleep.

What about you?

Also, how do you feel when mentally tired? I become grouchy, irritable and easily frustrated. I guess it's better for me to go to sleep because I become unbearable to anyone else. haha

What can I do next?

Mentally tired. If my body is tired and worn out and my brain is refreshed I can think " I'm not tired" and then I'm not tired. Does that make sense?? But I can't tell my brain not to be tired if my body is good to go. Wow! I transformer into a monster when I'm tired, overwhelmed and stressed, not to forget bored!! I can't even stand myself. :( today is one of those days.

I'm with you, the mental exhaustion is much worse. I can always force myself to get up and do something, no matter how physically tired I am. But if I'm mentally exhausted, all the will power in the world will not make my brain function right.

Mentally. I can sit down or drink coffee if I'm just physically tired but mentally tired just saps everything.

mentally tired, because it MAKES me physically tired as well. All the things you said too. Grouchy, easily frustrated, impatient, aggravated constantly, weak feeling, unable to focus, and it goes on and on

Mentally is much harder and takes longer to recover from. It physically wears me out and causes stress and wears me down.

Physically tired releases stress and builds me up, makes me feel better all over.

I have chronic pain so physically I'm exhausted 24/7/365. I'm testy some days when the pain reaches high points. Physical pain is mentally and emotionally draining. Right now I'm on edge on all accounts and there is no relief in sight for the time being. Sleep is not an option at the moment, and my physical pain never goes away which makes sleep difficult to impossible most days as it is. I know I'm not the funnest person to be around some days.

Mentally tired is much harder for me. I think it's easy to become mentally exhausted - day after day, you put up with more than you're really equipped for, and at some point, you just hit a wall. Or at least, that's how it feels to me. Once that happens, it takes a long time to feel like yourself again. When you're physically tired, getting some sleep makes you feel like a new person almost instantly!

Mentally, hands down. I can force my body to keep going, but not my brain.

Mentally tired is way worse for me. The mental exhaustion seems to roll over into the physical part for me. When I am stressed, I tend to start getting physically exhausted as well.

Wow, everyone said mentally tired. I'm the opposite. I think physically tired is worse for me. When I need to keep my eyes awake and they are drooping, that I assume is physical and that is the worst. Mentally, uh, I'm not a rocket scientist so to me it doesn't matter lol. As long as I'm physicially up and walking, I can function...

There's a reason why people take "mental health" days.

Getting some sleep helps the physically tired but getting over being mentally exhausted is worse because it makes you physically tired too.

Hands down mentally for me. Like you, I get grouchy, I'm more snippy and I get frustrated really easily. I've learned to read my own body so I rarely get physically tired and even if I am, I can block it out to get things done. Mentally is something I can't block out:)
