Menstrual Breakouts... GRRRR!!!

I get horrible acne, but ONLY right before/during my period. Are there any spot products that you LOVE that helps with this? Normally, I use Neutrogena facewash, and a facial moisturizer.. and it works well for me. Except for those stupid breakouts. My skin is really really prone to dryness, so nothing that will dry my face out.

What can I do next?

Don't laugh...I put toothpaste (the white paste) directly on my zit and it usually dries them out in one or two days. If it's an all over kind of thing then I don't know...probably don't want to lather yourself up in toothpaste! lol

PROACTIV. Hands down.

It's not very expensive. If you use the whole kit as a daily facial care regimen (and it only takes like a minute, seriously), I'd bet that alone would help with the monthly breakouts. But for the on-the-spot treatment, the kit comes with a Refining Mask, but what it actually is, is the BEST.SPOT.TREATMENT.EVER. Let me say that again, EVER.

I used to suffer from acne, tried everything, including all the antibiotics, retin A's, etc. And NOTHING worked like Proactiv. It's the ONLY product I've used that within a week or so, you can VISIBLY see and feel a difference in your skin, and no harsh side effects, whatsoever.

And the Refining Mask, well, it's a miracle in a bottle. Blemish appears, place a spot of the treatment on the blemish at night, wake up to a blemish that is nearly dried up and within a day or two, it's GONE.

And NO, I don't work for Proactiv. I just love it.

If you are interested, there are supplements you can take to balance your hormones and get rid of the problem rather than treating a symptom.

I used lavender oil (pure) for this. Works great for dry skin & has antiseptic qualities. You can use it on DD's booboos too.

I also use plain white toothpaste, not the gel.

I second the bare minerals, only I bought a small starter kit on their website for only $20. It's not as big as the regular starter kit, but you can try it for less that way, and there's still enough in there to last you for quite a while. It comes with a concealer. You'll need to spend time on the website to figure what shade is best for you.

I also like their blemish therapy:

When I bought my starter kit, they included a small sample of their moistuizer. It is the 1st moisturizer I've EVER tried that doesn't make me break out. Even the Neutrogena moiturizer that says it's for break-out prone skin makes me break out.

Good luck! :)

I hated the period pimple, I would get one SOMEWHERE on my body right before my period for about 35 years. I never found a cure, and just dealt with it. Even in my 40's I'd have to say, "well, there's my period zit dammit".

My SIL and I both had terrible breakouts that only got worse after we had our children. At 30 years old, we did not imagine having this problem still. One day, a friend of mine gave me a makeover using Bare Minerals make-up, and I absolutely loved the way it made me look fresh and naturally beautiful. I immediately went out and bought the starter kit (retails at $60 from Ulta) which includes several jars of the "minerals" as well as a few brushes.

What I noticed almost immediately after using this product (and throwing out all of my old liquid concealers, powders, etc) was that my acne problem went away seemingly overnight. I had always been told that traditional make-up was full of oil and bacteria, but I never really took it seriously. The proof, however, was looking me in the mirror every single day.

I thought it might be a fluke, still, so I told my SIL to buy the product and see if it helped her too. Her acne was much worse than even mine was, but sure enough, it cleared up as well. Both of us have been using it for nearly a year and have been completely clear. I still get the occasional blemish (maybe one every few months) which reminds me that it's time to wash out my brushes and everything is great again.

This stuff goes a really long ways, too. I have yet to refill any part of my starter kit after all this time (though I admit to not wearing it every day). The best part is that it is NOT Avon or Arbonne or any other company that people make money selling for (so you can't believe a word they say). I am in no way affiliated with Bare Minerals. I do not sell it. I do not own a store that sells it. I am not related to the woman that invented it (I wish!).

All I know is that it quite literally saved my skin. :-)
