i know i did the exact same thing....i actually spotten a little, then within the month got pregnant....yes they are 17 months apart, so be careful. I know that didn't really help, but I just wanted to share. Good luck
As soon as I stopped nursing my 8 month old in the night, my period seemed like it was going to start. I had all of the signs even menstraul cramps, but it has yet to show up. Has anyone else experienced this? is it just the hormones trying to kickstart or something?
Thank you all for your responses. I have taken a pregnancy test which was negative. I am going to visit my OB for peace of mind. Thanks again :)

I was going to say the same thing as the other poster. Are you sure that you are not pregnant? I had all the signs of my period starting without the period and I am pregnant. Also I have some friends that got pregnant while nursing and were shocked that it happened. I would call your doctor.
First, take a pregnancy test. If that is negative, then I would just try and make a doctors appointment or talk to the nurse and see if they think you need to come in and get checked out.
I had that with my second child.I found out it was the uterus contracting to go back into shape.Mine felt like labor pain itself.I had to quit nursing because it was too much. Also found out you only do that AFTER your first child.S. L.
You may not want to hear this....
But that same thing happened to me and I was pregnant with my third baby!!!!!!!!!
Basically my second baby weened herself at 8.5 months and I felt like I was going to start but I was preggie with our third and found out when she was nine months old!
I would double check with your Doctor to rule out anything else. This is nothing to take lightly when you talk about women's health. It's most important to get all checked out.
Please let us know what you learn!
You may be pregnant. Take a pregnancy test and find out. Contact your OB GYN and schedule an appointment and make sure nothing is wrong.
After I had to wean my firstborn at 4 months, I didn't get my period back until he was 6 months old - but I can't recall if I had symptoms of it the 5th month or not (12 yrs ago!)
BUT while still nursing my second son, I apparently got pregnant when he was 10 months old - even though my hubby & I hardly even saw each other, much less had time for THAT! We also were only using condoms or rhythm method, as two other forms of birth control had already failed us - hence my 2 beautiful boys! :D
But when I did get pregnant w/ my dtr, I had no symptoms other than fatigue and extreme allergy symptoms, & I brushed everything off due to moving to a different area and explaining it all away to either the allergies or the FOUR medications I was taking to control the symptoms! I thought that was why I was so durn tired all the time! It wasn't until I could FEEL my uterus hardening & twitching (at almost 4 months along) that I even suspected I was pregnant again! I thought breastfeeding was just a GEM if I wasn't going to get my period back as long as my child would nurse a few times a day!
Due to all kinds of complications that could arise if you are unaware of being pregnant, do a test to find out before you do anything else to your body, esp starting or changing BC method or drinking alcohol, etc... It could just be that you have the symptoms of your period, but not enough "stuff" for your body to rid itself of, and you will get the flow in the next couple of months (?)
Be prepared for any possibility! :)
Best wishes!

Hi there
Yes I had the same thing happen. After my second child I thought I was going to start my period. Side hurting back hurting I thought yep here comes the period. Nope instead I found out a few weeks later I was pregnant. I miscarried that baby and the doctor said I should have my period by 6 weeks. I thought I was getting it side hurting back hurting. It was the day before Valentines day. The next day no period, and again Valentines day. At six weeks I hadn't gotten my period so I thought maybe I'm pregnant. Sure enough I was. So my point is I hadn't noticed this feeling for the other two kids but with the last two it was me ovulating. My baby is nine months old and I still haven't gotten a period but I am just waiting to see if I have the same feeling again to see if I know I am ovulating. I read about it and it is common for women to feel like that, it's the egg moving. So if this is what happend to you, only one day of cramping and backache then maybe you were ovulating. Hope this helps. I guess if it was then you should have a period in a couple of weeks.
Sometimes it takes a while for your cycle to get back to normal. Some women start their period while they're still breastfeeding and some don't start for a while even after they've stopped. If I were you I'd just give my body some time to get those hormones in check before I got worried.
Hi Janet!
I'm still nursing my 14 month old and just started my period yesterday for the first time since Sept. 2006! I've been feeling crampy for a few weeks and kind of suspected that I was about to start again. I think what you're experiencing is very normal.

My advice is the same as the others -- you may be pregnant, because the symptoms you describe are just what I felt after I conceived my first son and before I was late on my period -- feeling like I was going to start early and/or have a heavy period, but had nothing.
However, it's probably nothing to worry about -- many women don't start back right away. I'd take a pregnancy test, just to be sure, though. My SIL didn't have any periods between her two sons (they were 19 months apart), and I've heard of other women who have also gotten pregnant while nursing and before getting a period.
While nursing helps to diminish or even stop your cycles, it is not fool-proof -- there are a lot of factors in play, when it comes to fertility. I didn't stop my periods, even while I was exclusively breastfeeding for the first 6 months. And while some women have anovulatory cycles while breastfeeding, many women will ovulate two weeks before their first period, leading them to get pregnant without even knowing they were fertile!
