not menopause, but peri.... and the periods def can last longer with clots....

most would recommend seeing a doc so that they can rule out things like fibroids.. also, they can do a hormone test to check your levels..
there is much info on the net about this. I think you will find that your symptoms are probably normal and in line with your age.

I had major clots and long, heavy periods and it was fibroids. You should really talk to your doctor about this. Three weeks is too long.

Yep, peri-menapause has arrived!!! Get checked by a doctor but it's probably your body reacting to the change in your horomones. My doctor told me to take 3 ibuprofen, 3 times a day for 3 days and the bleeding would stop. (Ya right-- I thought) But it worked. A 3 week period is not fun.

I would see a doctor to make sure nothing's wrong. You could become anemic, too, if you are bleeding heavily.

I would say go to a doctor. A period for 3 weeks is not normal. I am currently going through menopause and experienced nothing like that, my cycle stayed normal then just stopped. (Hallelujah) Now I could do without the hot flashes but 3 weeks and clotting is not normal.

I soooo feel your pain :( I believe it's peri-menopause, as I'm going through the same thing, not as long a period though, but VERY heavy. I'm also the same age. I would make an appt. with your doc. for a pap smear/exam to rule out anything else. Also, have you started taking any new medications recently? If so, that could be contributing to it. I've been doing alot of research on the internet for natural ways to deal with the heavy bleeding, and there are some supplements that can help. Also, make sure your taking a good women's multi-vitamin w/iron. Good luck to you & I hope you find what works to lessen your symptoms.

See your OB-Gyn. I had one long period like that due to a ovarian cyst bursting. She suggested a procedure called Edometrial Ablation - it uses some kind of waves (non contact) to remove the lining of the uterus. It is an in-office procedure. For most women it either stops periods all together or at least reduces them to almost nothing. My subsequent periods were normal so I never did the procedure although I wish I had!! As my doctor put it, there is no need to suffer. Discuss this with you Ob-gyn.
For my daughter who just started her period which is very heavy, the doctor suggested taking 400 mg of ibuprofen for the first 24-48 hours around the clock. It has reduced her bleeding significantly. But check with a doctor since meds can also increase bleeding.

Your hormones are completely out of whack. I know that a friend of mine who was having per period for three weeks used a hormonal balancing cream and it finally regulated itself. Another friend of mine, also with the same issue, got herbs from her accupuncturist and was told to boil and drink his concoction of herbs for three days and hers was also regulated. Naturally is the way to go. Let me know if you would like to have more info on the balancing cream. Good luck
