That would be me too. I know I am premenopausal. I have had hot flashes every 1-1/2 to 2 hours during the day, and hot flashes/night sweats throughout the night. By 3am, I have hot flashes every 30 minutes so I give up on sleep. This has been going on for almost 2 months now. My dr prescribed me high blood pressure medication to take at night. It didn't work. I didn't find any relief drinking soy milk or eating edamame's either. My dr was reluctant to prescribe HRT and I haven't pushed for it. I would like to ride this out, but it would be nice to know about how long it will last. I heard it gets better after the menopause stage for most women so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
BTW, I am not overweight, I do exercise and eat right, and so I have found that my healthy lifestyle did not prevent the hot flashes as is suggested in a lot of what I've read. I am not discouraging other women from trying to live a healthy lifestyle; I am just saying it didn't seem to put any points in my corner.
If the lack of sleep starts really getting to me, I might look further into the bioidentical hormone replacement. I am interested in if any of the women who respond to this have had any success with that route. If so, and if you live in the Frswd/Clear Lake area, who did you go to? And what happens when we finally stop that treatment? Are we just postponing this inevitable phase anyway?
On the flip side, I haven't been cranky or feeling out of sorts. I have experienced a few moments of uncontrollable tears which for me is unusual. I haven't felt that 'don't touch me' feeling that some women go through. For me, it is mainly the hot flashes. Having my very supportive husband could be my salvation on the emotional side of this change. On a non-work night, he will wake up with me!
