Memory Bears Made from Clothes

I would like to know if anyone knows of someone in the Dallas area that makes memory bears. Our family had some of these made years ago when my grandfather passed away but I don't have the info on this person any more. These bears are made from clothing of a special person, like my grandfather, or from old baby clothes or blankets. I would like to have bears made from some of my grandmothers housedresses. I have found some businesses on the internet but they are out of state. Some seem overpriced and the ones that are reasonable have really high shipping costs. I live in the Mesquite area so anyone that does this around this area would be good. Looking forward to your responses!

My suggestion would be to contact seamstresses because even if they have not done it in the past they can probly make them. Joanns & Hancocks (fabric stores)has a list of local seamstresses. Maybe you could find a picture on the internet to give them an idea of what you want. A good seamstress can make almost anything. ANd a private one will cost less than a business. Call around because prices will vary.
Best of luck.

I saw these in a magazine, I think it was Angels Among Us or simply Angels. It may be tied to the Guideposts magazines. The woman used her husband's clothing to make bears for his family after he died. Lovely idea. I think she just used a bear pattern you could purchase anywhere. You might see if the senior center has some crafters that might be willing to use a pattern of your choosing. (Maybe try a sample one first or see a sampling of their work before giving them her clothing to cut up.) Anyone that sews should be able to make these for you.

M.,

I know you prefer somebody instate, but you should check out my mom's blog. She is a wonderful seamstress, and this type of thing is right up her alley. She really takes the love from her clients and produces something beautiful.

They are not the best quality photos on her blog - sewing is her forte - not photography! :)
