Hi K.!

I would recommend that you take her to an orthopedist however you may need a referral from her regular doctor.

Hello K.,
You have a lot of options listed, but after the PED has decided you need a specialist, I personally prefer an Osteopath over a Chiropractor. the Osteopath (DO) is a medical doctor and can order prescriptions as needed.

I guess it would depend on whether it was bone, muscle, or something else. I would call my regular doctor, describe the problem to them, and go from there. Your regular might want to see her first or they may refer you to someone else right away. Good luck, for her sake I hope you are able to resolve this soon.

I think it matters how old she is and what kinds of activities she engages in. For example: If she does repetitive motions, she may have a bone spur, which would require an orthapedic surgeon to remove. Or,if she has muscle pain, she may have a pinched nerve and need a chiropractor. You need to elaborate a little more about her symptoms and her activities, in order to get really valuable advice.

I would say to check with her pediatrician first to see if it's a muscular problem or if she has a fracture. Did she fall lately? If it's broken, she'll see an orthopedic doctor. If it's muscular, it may be treated with massage, medication, or maybe physical therapy, depending on the cause. Hope this helps!

Pediatric orthopedist. You may need a referral from her primary care pediatrician first though. Good luck!

Just take her to a regular pediatrition and see if they recommend someone. SHould pain can be anything so seeing a specialist may lead you to many doctors.

start with the pediatrician. Usually the pediatrician can order xrays and any lab work. Depending on your insurance you may have to get a referral from him to see a specialist.

K.,
First of all how old is your daughter? You might want to make an appointment with her pediatrician first and let him refer you to a specialist if she needs one.

Well, if it's "extreme" I'd take her to the ER. But, if you think tylenol or anything else can ease the pain enough (depending on how old she is), take her to her regular doctor on Monday. If he/she can't help, he/she will refer you to where you need to go.

Relax, though. Be there for her and know it WILL pass!

You should make an appt with your regular pediatrician and they can then refer you to a specialist if they cannot deal with the issue. Hope everything turns out ok!

It depends on your insurance. If you have an HMO your daughter must be seen first by her assigned doctor (the gatekeeper). Her assigned doctor will give her a referral to a specialist if needed. If you have a PPO and can see any doctor without a referral of any kind you can take her to a family doctor, internist or orthopedist to start. Based on their exam they will either treat or refer you to someone else. God bless you!

I would just make an appointment with her regular doctor and if she needs to see a specialist for some reason her doctor can write a referral.

Well, K., before you decide where to take her, ask yourself some questions. How long has the pain been affecting her? Can she move her arm at all? Has she been in your care entirely for the past few weeks? If so, has she had any falls or collisions with anything? If not, ask the people who she's been with if anything like that occured. How old is she? Is she old enough to know what extreme shoulder pains are?

I would start by making an appointment with her PCP (Primary care physician... aka, pediatrician). They will be able to look at her and give you a preliminary answer of what they think might be wrong. It's better to get as much care from the PCP as you can... if they think she needs to see a specialist, they'll recommend one and possibly refer you. Because insurances don't always cover specialists, it's good to start from square one and have the pediatrician check her shoulder out.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter recently fractured her mid-clavacle (collar bone) and I had so many doctors appointments for her. But, one thing I learned was that if she cannot move her arm at all, then it may be dislocated. If she can move it, but doesn't want to because of the pain, it could be a fracture or break. However, there are lots of other possibilities.

So, again, take her to see her pediatrician. You'll probably spend the next few days running around to X-Ray Labs and doctors offices, but it will be worth it to see her shoulder healed! :)

HELLO. I WOULD START WITH YOUR PCP AND THEN THEY CAN REFER YOU TO A SPECIALIST. I WOULD IMAGINE IT WOULD BE AN ORTHOPEDIST. THAT WAY, YOUR PRIMARY DOCTOR CAN DO THE LEG WORK OF SENDING FILES, XRAYS AND CHECKING WITH YOUR INSURANCE PROVIDER TO SEE WHICH ORTHO'S ARE COVERED AND WILL PAY FOR MOST OR ALL OF YOUR BILL. HOPE THAT HELPS!!
