Mamapedia Addiction

Okay folks, advise me!

I am seriously considering asking my husband to fix the computer so I can't access Mamapedia. I am taking way too much time on this site.

I'm prioritizing Mamapedia over e-mail. You know, actual people I know, who are trying to reach me? I'm also finding myself focusing on Mamapedia answer when I am *not* at a computer. I'm getting antsy when I can't get on.

In short, all the standard signs of addiction.

Help! Has anyone successfully developed moderation in Mamapedia? Or do I need to go cold turkey? I quit once, but was back within a few weeks. I didn't stay moderate for long......

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I can no longer access Mamapedia from home. I'm getting a lot more sleep and finishing other projects. Thanks everyone!

I go in waves. Few months off, few weeks on. I can't help you because I've got the fever myself. I heard the cure was more cowbell, but maybe that was for a different kind of fever. ;)

Cold turkey! I did it once, stayed away for about 5 months, and then only rejoined because I was so bored while my newborn was napping so often. About to sign off again, though. I went the whole weekend without it and, guess what, I did JUUUUST fine :)

It seems to come in phases for me. Sometimes one question sparks a lot of other questions that are similar, those times I want to get on when ever I am not on. Other times once a day is more than enough.

Set a timer and don't do more then that each day. If you can't do that then maybe you need to pull it for a while......

I get on this maybe once every couple weeks for a day or two then forget about it..... . You may have a calling to be a therapist ............ maybe that is your personality to help people.

i get that way too... I haven't been on here in MONTHS! you just have to turn the computer off sometimes. the longer you stay away, the easier it is. :) Is it getting in the way of spending time with your family?

haha! I have been like this with other stuff. I could justify it because it was for a little business I was doing with designing. I didn't NEED to be doing it during the day. Night would have worked just fine. And it was taking time away from my kids. I couldn't seem to stop myself from getting on the computer, no matter how much I felt like I shouldn't. So, I did ask my hubby to set time restrictions to my account on the computer. I told him what hours to set it and when to have it let me on the computer. Now I can't get on the computer during the day. After the kids go to bed, I can get on the computer. It also turns off at a certain time at night.

Honestly, it's helped a ton. I no longer feel any pull. I can put my focus where I really want it to be...on my kids/family. I enjoy having no temptation from the computer:-)

I am pretty scheduled, perhaps freakishly so. If I don't stay strict on myself, I have the tendency to spend too much time on ANY given interest I have at the time. I actually schedule in breaks that I call "chill time" where I can read a book or magazine, lay down in the sun, play on the computer, etc for set amounts of time.....little blocks of time throughout the day. (When the boys are playing with the dog outside, during naptime, once dinner is in the oven, etc). Make it a little reward maybe? Set a timer. When the timer goes off, time to get up and do the next things on your to do list! Good luck. ;)
