Making 5Th Birthday Special

Hello. My daughter is turning 5 in December and we decided we would do something "special" instead of having a kid party. I am thinking of taking her to Downtown Disney to the "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique" and then on to the Grand Floridian for "Cinderella's Gala Feast". I have only seen these things on the internet so we don't know much about them. We are trying to do something exciting without actually having to go into Disney itself.

Does anyone have any feedback on the boutique or the character dining? Any tips on what to do or not do would be appreciated. She does love princesses but we are open to all kinds of ideas, and if there is a better character dining out there, we would love to hear about that too.

Thank-you!

We did Bippity Boppity Boutique with a friend in April 2007 for her 5th birthday. My youngest daughter, who was a three year old at the time, was invited and at the last minute, my then eight year old filled in for a "no-show".

They both loved it immensely. My oldest, at the time being 8, wasn't really a princess-stalker to the degree of my youngest and her friend, but she loves Tinkerbell. They made her up as Tink and my youngest as Sleeping Beauty. They performed miracles with the hair and makeup! Amazing! Bring your camera for lots and lots of pixs. The lighting in there is bad - I think on purpose to make our pixs look yucky compared to the Disney ones that they will take and offer. I did buy some of theirs as mine weren't as nice. Pricey but worth it!

Everywhere we went thereafter at Downtown Disney - cast members treated the girls like they were royalty. They bobbed their heads and curtsied and said "hello princess" ... it was priceless!

We ate at Rainforest too and they loved it. The staff, of course, fawned all over the girls and made such big deals .... your little 5 year old will love it. It took my kids a week for their egos to come back down to earth!

Enjoy!

The BBB rocks. I took my 4 yr old and 14 yr old god-daughter a few weeks ago. We ate at Rainforest, and then went and "made" candy at Goofys candy shoppe. Go early so she can walk around all day in her outfit! Bring your own princess dress and accessories or you will end up buying over-priced stuff you probably have at home. It was well worth it!!

Hi D.,

My friend did the same thing almost two years ago for her daughter's 5th birthday. They had a great day and her daughter still talks about it. They purchased a Disney princess costume/dress and accessories on sale after Halloween since they went in November.

Personally, I have not done that particular character dining experience but have done many of them (breakfast and dinner)over the years and have always enjoyed them. The food is always good. We were just there this past weekend and had breakfast with Goofy and Friends at the Beach Club Resort.

Since you will be at the Grand Floridian for yet another treat hop on the monorail (if you have time, ask to sit in the front with the driver, you may have to wait for it to be empty) and just do the loop...goes to the Polynesian, Contemporary and The Disney Ticket/Transportation Center.

I would image that "Cinderella's Gala Feast" fills up quickly so I would make your reservations soon. Disney Dining (1-407-WDW-DINE) reservations can be made 180 days in advance.

I'm sure your daughter will have a great birthday no matter what you decide to do.

Unfortunately, I have not done either of the things you are talking about but I have heard of them. As far as speaking to a specialist about a good character dining experience, I work for AAA and if you are a member (or know someone that is) you can check out your local AAA office. Most all of the auto travel specialists have special training for Disney and can help with exactly what you're looking for. Good luck! I'm sure your daughter will have a blast with whatever you decide to do!!
