In Chicago the Section 8 Voucher Housing program will begin accepting applications sometime this Spring or Summer. They plan to make it very public, but you may also stay informed by calling their hotline periodically at ###-###-####.

Hi K., I work at an agency where we have lists of affordable and subsidized housing. If you want to send me a personal message with your email address, I can email you the lists (or mail or fax, whatever's easy). Let me know which area (city of Chi./W/N/South suburbs). And yes, the Chicago Housing Choice Voucher Program will soon be opening its waiting lists; I can send you a flyer on that, as well. I know, it is so hard to find anything affordable in this area but hopefully I can help.

It is my understanding, that before the month is over, there will be a massive media blitz about low income housing before the month is over.
TV, Radio, Buses magazine, newspaper

There is a low income housing apartment building, I believe, in Evanston, IL on the NW corner of Sherman and Emerson (Emerson is Golf Rd). It is the Evanston school district. Call Evanston city hall.

You can also look in Skokie, Wilmette, be careful about Glenview because there is heavy drug gang activity there. There also is in Evanston, but this building area is safe. I know because I live across the street in coop.

I don't know if you can afford this or not, but there is a 2-story coop that is going for about $197,000 in my building. They do scrutinize your income (the board). It is 3-bedroom. If you are interested ask a real estate agent to show you Sherman Gardens Coops.
