Low Cost Couples Counseling?

My husband and I are new parents (our son is 4.5 months old). We have been happily married for 3 years, and together as a couple for 12 years. We are finding that parenthood (like marriage!) definitely has its ups and down, and we would like to have extra support from a professional counselor or therapist. I think we would benefit from talking about our new roles, the ways that our relationship is changing, and just generally how we are experiencing this time in our lives. Does anyone know of low cost options? Counseling/therapy seems like an important piece for a healthy partnership, but we haven't ever pursued it because of cost. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Try your local colleges and universities that offer psych degrees. In San Francisco I had great luck with the California Institute for Integral Studies

I don't know their prices now, but they have always worked on a sliding scale.

As always, shop around. You seldom find the right shrink on the first visit. Interview a few and choose the one you both feel most comfortable with.

Hi M.,

I've heard great things about Jodi Perelman out of San Francisco. I don't know what her rates are, but here's her contact information:

I hope you find someone. You might also do a search on yelp.com.

Oftentimes the church has free or donation-based counseling services.
