Losing Weight Post Baby

I have a 3 yr old son and a 10 week old daughter. After my son was born it took me almost 2 years to lose all the baby weight. This time I took better care of myself this pregnancy, didn't gain as much weight and stayed active until the last month. I thought for sure it would be easier to lose this time around, and am realizing that's not exactly happening. Any ideas on how to kick my metabolism in to gear? I would love to wake up early and work out before the kids get up, but that just isn't happening, can't seem to get out of bed that early! I try to fit in walks with both kids when I can, but its hard, as is following an eating plan when I feel like its constant chaos around here!

What can I do next?

A few ideas for you maybe...
1. Switch your ground beef to ground turkey (less fat and cholesterol)
2. Use low sodium/sodium free products and meals. Use fresh/frozen vegetables instead of canned because of how much sodium is in them
3. Use less sugar items and drink less soda/coffee if you do. If you use flavored creamer, use the sugar free as it has less calories and no sugar.
4. Cut your portions down a little bit at meal time and eat slower so your brain can get the idea that your body is getting fed and you will feel fuller sooner. Most people eat so fast these days that they don't give their brain enough time to get signals from the belly saying "I'm full" until it's too late, then you feel too stuffed/tired to do anything but sit there and digest.
5. If both your kids are in a stroller, use roller blades or skates instead of walking.

Good luck to you.

Are you breastfeeding? If you are, you shouldn't worry about actively losing weight until you wean. Secondly, it's only been 10 weeks. It takes 6 weeks alone for the uterus to get back to normal size and I don't know about your hips, but it has taken mine 9 mos to a year to feel the normal size again. So cut yourself some slack. It hasn't been long at all. With my 2nd and 3rd babies it took me about a year to be where I wanted to be. Be as active as you can. Eat healthfully. Drink water. Cut out the unhealthy calories.

Congratulations on the new baby!

I know how hard it is to squeeze in exercise, and following an eating plan is tough. But, there really isn't another way to do it. After gaining 72 pounds with my twins, I've lost all the weight and 26 more pounds. I did nurse my boys, so I know that helped, but I really focused on eating balanced, nutritious meals. Drinking lots of water helps your metabolism, too. But, to lose weight it's a simple fact. You must take in less calories than you burn. You're going to have to change your meals and get in more fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats.

Well, I tried to get back in shape shortly after my baby was born and it didn't work. There is just too much going on....not to mention your huge lack of sleep. For now I would just start trying to eat a little better (maybe you already do) and the way to do that is plan out your 3 year olds meal. After all, we are more concerned with keeping our kids healthy than ourselves, right? Then eat what he eats, if he eats normal foods and not chicken nuggets and grilled cheese( that won't help you get back into shape). Swim this summer and go for walks around the neighborhood. Do you have a good friend with kids that will walk with you in the afternoons? We do, and although it may not be the fastest walk in the world, I look forward to it. Not because it's exercise but because I have someone to chat with and my little girl has someone to visit with. Then, continue to work on eating throughout the rest of the year and kick your exercising up a notch next summer. My son is 18 months now and I am down to needing to lose 5 lbs to be at my goal weight. So, it took a while but I reached it without stressing (too much) about it.

Good luck with everything!

Hi!
The only diet that works is putting less calories in than go out. You can lose weight without excercise or following some crazy diet. Calorie restriction works by counting calories. You can go to caloriecount.com and get information about how many calories are in foods so you can plan your day. Talk to your doctor about what he or she thinks is reasonable for a dieting caloric intake for you. You can lose a pound a day doing calorie restriction without eating anything strange, just making good choices, without any excercise. I know following a plan seems like a big hassle, but it is the best way to lose the weight and once you get started and see results you will be happy you did it!

I might have a good plan for you. However, if you are nursing it would have to be fine tuned. It does include meal replacements. Let me know if you would like to know more.

Your daughter is only 10 weeks old, give your body some time. Some people loose fat fast while breastfeeding, for some however it's the opposit(body will hold on to the fat:)). I am sure you are active chasing after a 3 year old, what about your food??? What helped me loose weight: i only eat lean protein, whole grains, no refined sugars, drink only water. When kids were smaller I would put them in the stroller and go for a walk every day and if I got a chance after hubby would get home from work I would go walking by myself. I have heard somewhere that it takes only 7 min of fast cardio workout to start your metabolism , so on some days I would just go running for 7-10 min before kids get up. Do not stress out and take your time, it will happen:)
