Lose Weight! Hypnosis?

Do you know anyone who has tried hypnosis to lose weight? My sister has been having such a hard time losing weight (she wants to lose 90 or so pounds) and has tried everything, even weight watchers 5+ times. She does understand that the best way to lose weight is to eat healthy and exercise, and I feel so bad for her because she is trying so hard. She said she is an emotional eater and likes to eat when she is bored which is why she thinks hypnosis will help her along with her eating better and working out more. Has anyone tried this or known anyone who has tried hypnosis?

What can I do next?

I was about to post the same topic, but more from an experience view point. I am the biggest emotional/boredom eater on this planet. You can give me the best diet plan, food logs, and threaten me with public humiliation, and I STILL overeat the moment I get stressed and bored. The open snack bin at work feeds right into this.

Now don't laugh, but a few weeks ago I got free tickets to a Renaissance Festival. (refer back to my turkey leg post.) There was a hypnotist there, and he did the most amazing things. There is no way it was all show - people cannot act that well! A lady sitting next to me with her husband and kid got hypnotized and she definately was not faking. Anyway, the guy was selling hypnosis CD's so I figured what the heck, might as well try. It was only $20 and I wasted a lot more money than that already that day.

He told me to listen either during an afternoon nap or as I was going to sleep. I chose the sleep route. AMAZING. The first day, I had no desire to snack whatsover. NONE. I even walked into the break room out of habit, dug around in the snack bin and had no desire to eat anything. It's now been 8 days, I've lost 3 pounds, and I have not snacked but once - yesterday, when I was extremely stressed out about a situation with my child. And even then, I could only eat 1/2 the snack and tossed the rest.

He said I'd only have to listen to the CD 3-4 times per week to start, and then only once in a while for maintenance. But DH and I are almost addicted to it. He is the biggest insomniac in the world. He literally will go days without sleeping, and then only get 2-3 hours per night when he can drift off. No natural or Rx sleeping pills have ever helped him. Well, he is out cold within 3 minutes of that CD playing. He doesn't make it past the legs relaxing. I make it to about midway, and sometimes wake up a the end when he tells you to.

I know, it's all in my head. But that's the point, right??

I've only every tried using a hypnosis cd and i didn't stay with it so i can't say as it had any immediate effect, but there are times that I will remind myself to stop eating when i'm full and to be willing to "take excercise" It was a Paul McKenna cd and was really neat i just don't follow through.

I say, what would it really hurt????, if you figure the amount of food/junk food she is eating would equal a session or two of hynosis why not try it.

It's probably not a magic pill or more people would use it, but if she is already making changes, then this might be a little boost to make it all click in place.

edited: lol i guess she prob isn't eating 7 hUNDRED $ in snacks, yikes!

I've had hypnosis for my anxiety, and nail biting. Anxiety is less with it, and my nails are long.

It isn't for everyone, but if you take it seriously, it does work wonders.

There's a woman on another board I'm on who did hypnosis and has lost 40+ pounds. I think she went to five or six sessions about a year ago and it's taken about a year to lose the 40 pounds. She raves about how easy it's been to follow the diet she was given (she eats no bread, pasta, rice and must have protein at every meal/snack). She was on a three month wait list to get into this hypnotist and it cost several hundred dollars.

I did try hypnosis for weight loss and it didn't work at all. But it's not for everybody.

I have lap-band and have had MUCH more success with that.
