Hi Moms, I am a recent college graduate, I have a associateds degree in applied science, I went to school for medical assisting. I am also certified as well. When I started school 2 plus yrs ago everyone told me the health field is the one to get into. Well I have had no luck finding a job. I am recently a single mom of two beautfiul girls. I am very grateful to be living with my mom who has been supporting us through this tough time. But I am so sick of having to rely on her to take care of me and the two of them. I am trying so hard not to let myself get down with the whole job thing but it's hard. I want to feel like I'm contributing and doing something productive everyday. So I'm just wondering if any of you other moms are going through the job search struggle as well and what you're doing to keep youself up??

Know that you are definitely not alone. My husband has been without work for a whole year! He has a ton of military experience, but no college degree yet. You'd think the military experience would be good in our area (military base), but nope. They won't even look at you w/out a degree. And of course him being the "man of the house" doesn't help his attitude about it. :(

He's actually volunteering for a deployment now just so that he can earn money for his family again, along with the opportunity to get a degree online.

Stay positive & keep looking! You can do it! Just know that you are not alone. It is hard for everyone.

On your job search see if there are any places you can volunteer PT in your field while you are out looking and interviewing. It looks good on your resume and it may allow you to get your foot in the door somewhere you hope to work while waiting for an opening. My neighbor's son just graduated from Berkley in Dec.and was in the same situation, no jobs open in his field at graduation time. He took PT job evenings out of his field for $ and began volunteering PT in March at a place in his field, he was almost like an intern. 1st wk of June he was notified he will be hired at the same place for a paying entry level postion in his field. It was a lot of grunt work to start he said, but it paid off. Just a thought. Good Luck and chin up.

I had to quit my job at a feed store, becuase there was no way that they could/would pay enough to puy my 2 month old son into daycare, if I daycare was even an option in the first place. I just wanted to be a stay-at-home-mom. But, just my husband's income isn't enough for me to stay at home. So I started looking for at-home jobs, and so I've been working from home for about 3 months now. I've really enjoyed what I've been doing and I would be happy to tell you more about what I do, if you would like. Good lukc in your job search!

First of all, be VERY VERY proud of yourself for completing college while a single mother with two children!!! This is an astonishing fantastic accomplishment!! Plus think of the lessons you have taught your girls in doing so, they CAN do ANYTHING they set their minds to! Bravo to you! It's true your fortunate to have your Mom help you out too (it WILL make you feel better to express to her how it makes you feel that you are STILL not self-supportive)...it's clear you have the determination to land the job you're looking for eventually, but for now can you settle for something less than ideal, just to help you feel like you're contributing? Good Luck to you Mamma (not that you need luck), you're an inspiration!
