Do any realtors or anyone else know if there is a website that will give you the taxation and assessment for a particular property in Texas. I am looking to obtain the "comps" for some holds that sold in a particular area and do not have a realtor that could run comps for me.

In the Houston area there is www.har.com (Houston Area Realtors) - it will give you a range of what recent listings have sold for. There may be a similar website for the Dallas area.

Just find a realtor in your area. They know what all the comps are. They can give you a price range. That's their job.
You can also see if the county assessor's office has any info.

The tax assessed value can be and often is very different from the home's sales price. You can go to the county's website to look up the assessed tax value of the property, but it won't give you an accurate picture of the home's true worth. In Texas a home's actual sales price is not considered public record (by law), so you'll have to work with a Realtor (or some type of Broker agency) to get that information. If you're protesting an assessed tax value, then sometimes the county will provide you this information as well. The zillow.com numbers in Texas are only estimates b/c of this privacy law. Sorry. You could look up current listing to get an idea for the market, but that can also be very different from the homes actual sells price. I'm not sure if you're looking to sell a home yourself to save the commission, but if so PM me I'll look up the name of the company we used recently. They were awesome and it only cost up about $300 vs. a $9000 listing agent commission. Good luck to you.

I second the comment about using the Tax Appraisors website. Zillow does not work at all or only works based on Tax Appraisal info because Texas is a non disclosure state.

Not sure what you are looking for specifically, but don't use Zillow. You are better off going to your county property tax site.

Texas is a non-disclosure state, so you will not find a listing of recently sold prices anywhere. However, I am a Realtor, and I'm happy to help you. Just pm me with what you are looking for.

Do some of your own research on the county website which lists the current appraisels and tax rates.

If you need more, then find a realtor who would run the comps for you, maybe for a nominal fee.

I have viewed recent and past sales on a site with "blockshopper" in the name. I cannot remember exactly what it is but might be blockshopper.com
So many of the sites that used to be free now charge, for public info! The county sites might not be exact since they are more assessment than true sales, and Zillow is just wrong. According to that site (we have a double lot where one is just a yard and garage-no building), our yard is worth $158,000 and our house does not exist. No way could I get anywhere near $158,000 for our lot.

As for taxes, each home is different because each home is assessed based on the fixings that have been done to the yard/property, like patios, pools, walls, etc., even if they have similar layouts. If the development is new you can go to zillow and or any other sites in areas close by and get an estimate of the price/sq ft. Then multiply that price by sq ft for the size home you are interested in. Right now, the market is jumping all over the place because the foreclosures are still on the market and it really screws with pricing. You can try your county assessor or treasurer.

Best of luck.

Second the zillow.com response. It will show you sale prices and what homes are currently listed for. Great both for sellers and buyers.

Do a search by addresses.

Be wary of zestimates from zillow, as it doesn't accurately account for improvements to the property, square footage and is not up to date with sales info. That's no lie. I get requests to view properties that appear "active" but sold up to a year ago. It's a fun site to run through though.
