Looking for Suggestions for Girl's Bedding That Isn't TOO Girly

We are about to get a new twin bed for our daughter (white) and I have been looking for bedding. Pink is okay, although it would be nice to have a variety of colors. My sons have some great "space" bedding made by Olive You and it is great. Olive You doesn't seem to have any great girl designs that I could find. Her current bedding for her crib (which we turned into a makeshift toddler bed) is ladybug. I thought maybe bugs or butterflies? I really don't want to do princesses (although of course she loves them.) I would like something that is more comparable with the space bedding! (Princesses vs. astronauts-I don't think so!) Her walls are yellow. I have been looking at Hello Kitty (girly I know, but she and I are big Sanrio fans!) and there are some nice ones to choose from. Also maybe polka dots would be fun, although I want to give her a chance to have something little girl-related since she will probably want polka dots or something when she is a tween. If I sound like I am contradicting myself-I am! Anyway, let me know if you have suggestions.

Land of Nod and The Company Store both have great selections of unique kids bedding and both carry quality products. We've bought several things from Land of Nod and have not been disappointed.

I never went for themed or character type bedding for my kids, I bought them nice down comforters and quilts in neutral colors that would last for many years.
But I DID let them express themselves in other ways, a set of sheets, decorative throw pillows, pictures/posters on the wall, that kind of thing.
Unless you have a budget to redecorate their room almost every year, don't invest too much. Their tastes change so quickly, Hello Kitty one day, My Little Pony the next!

My daughter is now 5. Originally I did her room with a garden theme (we moved into the house when she was 18 months) - light green walls, some touches of pink (blanket, lamp, etc.), white furniture, wall appliques of flowers, butterflies, bees, etc. We are also a fan of cupcakes, so she does have some bed sheet sets with cupcakes on them. Maybe you could do a "tea party" theme, with tea cups, tea pots, cupcakes and sweets. A family member of mine did fairies for her daughter's bedroom.

Lately though, DD wants to change it up. She loves mermaids and wants an "under the sea" theme. If I can get my husband to agree to it, I would repaint the walls in light aqua or pale turquoise, then look for wall appliques of mermaids, sea shells, starfish, etc and other accessories, like bedsheets and seashell garland, to go along with the "under the sea" look.

I've always thought a Hawaiian/surfer girl themed bedroom would be really cool and I would love to do it if DD agreed to it - think hibiscus flowers, pineapples, palm trees, surf boards, flip flops. You could combine some of the Hawaiian stuff with the under-the-sea stuff for a beach-themed room.

For a tween, a groovy 60's themed room, with tie-dyed bedding, peace signs, bead curtains, and a lava lamp could be cool too. Maybe even throw in a disco ball, although that is more 70's.

If she likes lots of colors, maybe something with rainbows?

DD has a sheet set with thin stripes in each color of the rainbow. The base color is white. I love that set because it's super simple, I can interchange it with her comforters and other sheet sets and any decor matches it. It's colorful but not overly colorful, girly, or too childish. I purposely got sets that "aged" well.

Owls are popular right now.
I just bought some fabric to make PJ's for my daughter. It is a pale green with lavender/purple owls. Very cute. Maybe look for something in the pale green family... it is girly, yet not PINK and princess.

Maybe something like this:

Target has a bunch of cute girl sheets. There was an owl set that I love and a flower set. We ended up with polka dots because it went with her curtains.

Pottery Barn Kids has a great selection of bedding. I got my daughter a set last year that is not girly at all in my opinion and the quilt is reversable. One side is pink and the other is green. She usually picks the pink side but surprised me a few weeks ago and wanted the green side up. I had coupons and picked up the quilt on clearance so I didn't spend too much. If you watch the website they have regular sales on bedding.

We got the dark pink sheets from Walmart that are microfiber. They are sooooo soft. Then we got her a Hello Kitty throw. The ones with the curtains, not the blankets. They are larger and more plush. Then we got her the dark pink curtains that have fluff on the valance. Her room sort of glows pink now. The curtains are a bit much pink for me but she is totally in love.

We got the solid sheets and curtains so that we could switch out the blanket in a year or so to a new character or design. A lot of colors go with the pink so the sheets can last a long time.

I got my oldest a great bed set from Little Miss Mismatched. it's hearts, so it's a white bedspread with hearts on it. It had a set of matching sheets, with fun stripes on it... and then I bought some polka dot sheets to have an extra set. it's fun!

My MIL bought her a Hello Kitty bed spread for xmas but she still prefers her hearts. I love them because they are perfect for both a little girl and a bigger girl.
