hi ladies,
my daughter had her 1 year check up today and i delayed the MMR shot cause i know you can get them in 3 different shots.even though my doc doesn't do it,i'm trying to find a place that would do it.i got a prescribtion for the measle shot.but i heard that even pharmacies won't order them cause they come in 10packs.so i wonder if anybody knows either a place that offers the shots seperatly or if anybody else would be interessted in doing it so maybe more people can put in a prescribtion for the shots so the pharmacie would order it.i just don't feel comfortable with giving her the MMR shorts all at once, specially with all that austism stuff going on.even there is not prove it could still be possible.
thanks
M.

The speculation that the MMR shot was causing Autism back in the 90's was due to the fact that the drug companies were producing large quantities of the shot and therefore had to use a preservative.....that way the Dr.'s office could keep it on the shelf longer....purchasing the large amounts of the shot. The preservative contained mercury in it.....I do not think this is being used any longer....my child recieved the MMR in 1996/7 and hers did contain the preservative, and she is high functioning autistic. No one will admit that the MMR caused the autism, they have linked the autism outbreak during that time period soley to the preservative. So....if you find a Dr. office that will give the shot separately, you might want to inquire about whether or not the MMR still contains a preservative to give it a longer shelf life? Good luck.

Hi,
I am having the same exact problem! I have a friend who takes her daughter to Jones, Daley, Cauldren (spelling may not be right) and they are located in Camp Hill. (not York county, I think it is Dauphin county) She told me that this office will do it. I don't want to transfer my daughter to this office because I really like Springdale in York. My daughter is 18 mos old and I am holding off on the MMR completely until after she is 2 yrs old. She is not in daycare so I figure I will do the research again after she is 2 and maybe I can find the shot separated at that point. Good luck!

Hi M.,
I too was looking into this about a year ago. My pediatrian told me she would do it, but Measles, Mumps, and Ruebella have to be ordered in lots of 10. So, she said I would have to pay out of pocket for 30 immunizations. I actually considered it and like you, thought I could get a group of interested parents together, but then I found out the immunizations are shipped especially to keep them at an "appropriate" temperature. Once they arrive at the Dr. office, they are immediately refrigerated. That tidbit changed my mind. I personally don't want to be responsible for any child having a reaction from an injection that went "bad" because of improper handling during shipping, storage, etc. So, I've given up on the issue and I am on the fence with when/if to give it. I may wait till she enters kindergarten.

As an aside, my pediatrician just kicked us out of the practice b/c we don't follow the CDC immunization schedule exactly. So, I'm now looking for an open-minded pediatrician. If you find one, pass their name on!

Good luck!
