Hi K.! I'm actually making a jello recipe that sounds very similar to the one that you're describing. It's called Jell-o Magic Mousse. Check out -

Moms,
I NEED HELP!!!!! I am supposed to make a Jell-o recipe that my husbands Aunt makes every Easter, but she is not attending our Easter celebration this year and I was asked to make it. Problem is that I can't find the recipe! It is a simple one at that. Includes Orange Jell-o and Cool whip (Dream Whip). If you should have a recipe that is similar to that, can I please have it (before Easter please)?
Thank you!
K.

Hey K.,
Here is one I have, I don't know if this is what you are looking for.
Ingrediants: 1 1/2 cups boiling water, (1) 8 serving or (2) 4 serving of Orange Jello, 1 cup of cold orange juice, ice cubes, (1) 8oz cool whip thawed, (1) can of fruit cocktail.
Stir boiling water into gelatine in large bowl at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Mix cold juice and ice cubes to make 1 1/4 cups. Add tp gelatin. stirring until slightly thickened (consistency of unbeaten egg whites). Remove any remaining ice. Refrigerate for 45 minutes.
Reserve 1 cup of gelatin; set aside. Stir 1/2 of the whipped topping into remaining gelatin until smooth. Pour mixture into 8 inch square pan. refrigerate about 5 minutes until set but not firm (should stick to finger when touched and should mound). Stir fruit into reserved gelatin and carefully spoon over creamy layer in pan.
Refrigerate for 3 hours or until firm.
Good Luck!
Hey K.-
I don't know if this is the one that you're looking for, but we've used this one in our family for a long time, for pretty much every holiday.
Here's the recipe:
2 lg. packages of orange jello, prepared per directions
1 pkg, of Dream whip, prepared w/milk
1 lg. package of vanilla pudding, prepared per directions
1 can fruit (cocktail or single fruit) **Optional
Prepare jello is a 13x9 glass dish. Once mixed you can add the fruit if you choose. (I've done it both ways and it's always good either way!) Let jello set in refrigerator according to the directions on the box. While jello is setting, fold the prepared dream whip and vanilla pudding together. Let set in fridge until jello is ready. When jello is ready, put the dream whip/pudding mixture on top, cover, and let set for at least 30 minutes. Enjoy!
**I've made this recipe with sugar free/fat free products and it always tastes as good at the real thing!**
The organge jello that my mom made was a small box of orange jello (dry - don't actually make the jello!), a med. container of small curd cottage cheese and a small container of cool whip all mixed together. Then you mixed in a small can of drained manadrine oranges into it and save a few for decoration on top. You can serve right away if needed.
I don't know if that is the one but good luck!
