Looking for New Tub for 8 Mo. Old son...any Ideas!?

I would like to move my son into the big tub, but I think that he still needs support and I would feel better if he had something soft to land on in the event of a bump.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I would like to thank all of you for your replies. I did some research since lastnight and I think that the eurobath is going to be the best transition from infant tub to big tub. It is non-toxic, good size(up to 24 mo.) and made here in the USA. I read a ton of great reviews. I think this makes the most sense, as I did read many reviews about the dangers of bath seats, inflatables and rings. Thanks again.

Ikea - blue plastic tub. I keep it inside my regular tub. My 3 year old still uses it - it's been the THE BEST thing I ever bought for bathing.

Hi T.,
I see that you've already responded... just one more idea. I got creative and bought a Rubbermaid storage bin (one of the shorter ones) and lined it with one of the suction cup bath mats. It fits my 30 lb little one just fine and he loves the "squishy mat"...
Happy bathing!

I know you already responded but wanted to chime in we moved right to the big tub when my little girls was three months old - first with a towels under her and then without - definitely by the time she was 8 months old she was fine sitting without. Not sure you need to bother with any transitioning really....good luck!

I cannot say enough about the "Primo EuroBath". You can simply google it and purchase on-line. Our daughter is now nearly 16 months old and we still use it and plan to do so until she's 24 months! We started her in this tub at 2 months and it has grown with her. We never used the tub you put in the sink. The Primo EuroBath is contoured for both infants and infant/toddlers. When she was smaller the shape was perfect for positioning her, and now that she's larger (she's in 18-24 mo clothing - not sure how much she weighs at the moment, but she has always been quite long), on her own she slid around to the upright sitting position. She LOVES IT and so do we!

Hi T.,
I am a postpartum doula just signing on to mamasource....
They sell this "swivel chair" that sticks to the bottom of your tub where your baby can sit up and not fall in the water-a lot of Moms really like it. If you're not ready to convert to your tub, they sell this foam about three inches thick for your little one to sit on in the sink or his tub. I, myself, have had six children and I like the flat bottom tubbies or a good big sink.

We used a great little tub seat that suction cupped to the bottom of the tub. It kept my kids from slipping around or accidentally getting their faces wet.
I have seen several models of these available.
I have also seen inflatable tubs that fit inside a larger tub to make a softer smaller space for little ones- but it just seems like more work to me!

By a tub seat it will come in handy when he wants to start standing in the tub.

I used the Tubside Bathseat made by Safety First for both my children, it worked great, a little hard to wash the crotch area though so wash everything else and then take him out of the seat.

Have you heard of the magazine "One Step Ahead" ? They also have a website & offer many bath products. They sell an inflatable tub ring(? not sure the actual name) it surrounds the entire inside wall of the tub. We had used the yellow sponge bear on the bottom of the tub, and switched to an inflatable sm tub when they got older. Its all a matter of preference.

I just place a small towel in the bottom of the tub. It works great for my daughter, who is also 7 months and it's free.

I actually had a tubby for my daughter. We used it twice. The rest of the time we showered with her. It helped her get her face wet and not be afraid of it. That is until she turned 3 and heard her 11 yo brother crying while I had to wash his hair because his face might get wet. Now she too is afraid of it.
I have also just gotten in the bath with her and given her one that way. She thought it was the greatest thing ever. So I would suggest some daddy bonding time to be gotten giving a bath together. He might realy enjoy that.
There are little seats that hold them in a sitting position that my aunt swares by. I think I would probably be more comfortable with something like that. Safety first I think has a foam mat that can be used in the tub. I'm uncomfortable with the inclined things they would lay on. My daughter used to slide down it. I spend more time re-adjusting her than giving her a bath.

I used an inflatable tub in the tub when my kids got to big for the infant tub. Babies r us and Walmart sold. Not sure if they still do but it worked great for us. The only downfall is storing it when not in use....... It looks like a small pool boat.

hi,
so i bought a really cute inflatable rubber ducky when my kids were just about 7 months for them to sit in in the tub...they both loved it and it made me feel so much better knowing that if they lost their balance sitting and fell over they wouldn't get hurt. it was really cheap ~$10 and now they play with it. the beak even squeaks which my boys loved...hope this helps!

I had a very inexpensive tub for my DD. I believe it was from "Safety First".. got it at Target. (If I have the name wrong.. it definitely didn't come from that mail order company.. it was Target.)

Anyway, it has a sling that you can rest a newborn on, then it has a ring that you flip around so the baby can sit and hold onto the ring that goes around him, then you flip that around and it is just a small tub.
Loved it.
It as about $20.00.

Good luck

Check out the Primo Eurobath Tub. I switched from a baby tub to this at about 8 months and used it at least til 20-22 months. It's big, but that's great for longer use. It has two sides: one way is for when baby is little, then face other way for when bigger. Found online for about $25 and even found free shipping. Love this baby tub because using the whole bathtub did seem overwhelming. I also used a bath sponge that I got at Target for about $5 to line it.

We used an inflatable tub we purchased at Target in the shape of a duck. It was sooo much fun for my daughter and she was supported by the cushion. It is a "munchkin" product, I believe. It also didn't use as much to fill!!

Once my sons were that age, we bought these inflatable tubs that you can blow up and put right into the big tub. I think I got them at BRU and they were pretty inexpensive. It works out great b/c it gives you more room but they are still surrounded by softness and have the comfort of a smaller tubbie! Good Luck!

I am also interested in this answer. Right now I lay my 11 month old on one of those soft yellow sponge bears on the bottom of the tub but I think she would have a better time if she were sitting up.

We used a bath ring with our little guy, it worked great! It was a circle with suction cups on the bottom and three approx 8 inch posts set in vertically connecting to a plastic ring. It keeps your child in a sitting position. It was given to us, so I don't know where to buy one, but we loved it!

we have this seat: http://www.safety1st.com/product/detail.asp?ID=2754

for my daughter we just washed her in the sink until she could stand up (i have a double deep sink). but we go this seat so we can give them both a tub at the same time in the bath tub. this is great. it is a little hard to wash his crotch area while he's in the seat... so we save that for last and i take him out fo the seat, do that part and then he's out of the tub.
