Looking for Moms Who Need Assistance with Baby 'Stuff'

My husband and I were blessed with a baby boy just under two weeks ago and have been lucky enough to be given dozens of bags of baby clothes and other gear — so much that there is no way our son will be able to wear everything or use all of it. We would like to return the favor by finding a local mommy or two who is in need of baby clothing and other stuff that we can pass some of it along to, but we're not sure where to start. We pretty much keep to ourselves, so I'm posting here in hopes that one of you will know someone who has found themselves in a situation where money is tight but isn't afraid to accept goodies from someone they don't know. We'd much rather know that someone is getting the things they need instead of dropping everything off at Goodwill. Any recommendations would be appreciated! You can email me at ____@____.com if you'd rather not post names/contact info here. Thanks in advance! :)

You could email the counselors at your local high school; their email addresses should be pretty easy to find on the school website. They usually have several teenage girls who are pregnant and in need of help.

I always use Freecycle to get rid of extra stuff. Visit www.freecycle.org to find a group in your area.

You could contact CCA (Christian Community Action), http://www.ccahelps.org/, based in Lewisville. My church group sponsored a new mother through them last year at Christmas, and I know they have many other mothers in need.

S., I sent you an email but also wanted to post here. My husband & I are adopting a little boy who is due Dec. 5th. This was rather unexpected so we have a very little amount of time to get everything together. I would love to have some of the items.

Also, the Little Elm Police Department is sponsoring a HUGE "garage sale" at the Little Elm Athletic Stadium on Saturday, Nov 1st from 9 - 4. It is a benefit for a young lady who does a lot of work to help abused kids. She was recently admitted to the hospital & has undergone 2 surgeries with no insurance. They are sponsoring the sale to raise money to pay for her medical bills. They are accepting all donations through Friday, October 31st at 5pm. Call ###-###-#### and ask for Det. Denison for more details.

You may want to look into donating your items to a crisis pregnancy organization in your area. I saw that you are in Denton. Women to Women Pregnancy Resource - ###-###-####

Our daughter spent over 5 months in the NICU when she was born and many people read her stiry online and sent tons of clothes and gifts. When she outgrew them ( and as she out grows more) we took them to the hospital where she had stayed and donated them to the NICU. Many preemies need clothes while they are staying in the hospital and there are a TON of families in need, especially with so many medical bills from the child's care.

I also will have a ton of stuff after I deliver my 2nd and am looking to do the same thing. I am also going to get rid of ALL my maternity clothes, since this will be our last one. I did hear of a pregnancy crisis center that is opening up in Frisco at Parkwood and Warren, I will most likely take my clothes there...if I find out they may need clothes and stuff, I will let you know.
With the holidays coming up, you may also check some local churches...I know that several do extra charity work around this time. Another option (kinda far away) is Dallas Theological Seminary has a bunch of International students from Africa and India that might be in need. I know they are often families of 5 + living in 2 BR apts.
Good Luck!

There is a teacher at my children's school who is expecting. Her husband is also a teacher there. She also babysits for us once a month on our date nite. As this will be their 5th child, funds are tight. They are excellent parents and she is the only sitter my almost-two-year-old-twins have ever had. Over the weekend she sat for us and I pulled all the boys old things down from the attic and told her to take what she wanted. It wasn't much, but I know it helped. I'm certain she would be more than happy to receive items from a stranger and would be happy to set it up for you two if you are still interested and the items are still available.
