I've heard a lot about Melaluca products lately, and want to learn more. A friend of mine uses them and held a party in which someone explained and described everything and how it works. It's kind of like a Costco membership and you buy something from them every month. I'm very intrigued, but before doing it, I wanted to see if anyone else out there uses the products? What do you have tos ay about the company, the products, etc. Any comments are welcome and will be helpful. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Personally, I steer clear of ANYTHING that requires a monthly membership or x-amount of required dollars each month. We almost joined Melaluca, but decided against it after a few days of thinking and discussing. We are debt free, and we have zero monthly payments on anything. It just feels so good to not be committed or required to pay someone something every month. Financial freedom is sooo worth it.

That being said, Melaluca does have some great products, so maybe you could find a friend to split it with or something so that you aren't as tied down.

my mom gets melaleuca for me. I use only their products to clean and love them. They all have good smells. The laundry detergent is around 29 dollars (I believe and it will do 192 loads) it also has a refreshing smell and cleans very good. I believe to be a member she has to at least spend 50 dollars a month. She buys for anyone in our church who needs it so I am pretty sure she has an easy time getting orders. One kind of shampoo I tried gave me bad dandruff, I think it was too strong for me! We ran out of toothpaste the other day and had to use some colgate I had from before, we almost puked....we just love the melaleuca toothpaste! Some of their stuff might seem expensive, but for me I think the cleaners average out to be cheaper per bottle than Wal-mart! Good luck and I will say I highly recommend.........

Hi Anne,

The monthly membership is what keeps the cost so low, and yes it is low. If everybody buys a little each month, then everyone can save a lot. It works more like a co-op so everybody wins. If Melaleuca advertised, their products would cost thru the roof like other natural things do. They pay a premium for their ingredients and it shows. A bottle of Clear Power that would equal the amount in a Windex bottle would cost $1.25, and it works better. That's unheard of in the natural community. All their products are like that.

I'm glad I said yes when my friend showed me the company. I'm a single woman and I can afford it. I've been a stay at home mom for years and on a fixed income. Melaleuca has actually helped me budget because that 55-65 dollars I spend each month is all I need to spend to get everything I need.

If you don't like it cancel your membership. Melaleuca doesn't just cut you off at that point, they allow you to buy their products at retail prices and you can come back as a preferred customer anytime. You actually spend less when you shop every month if you like the products as well as I do. I also get to take advantage of the savings in their Marketplace where I can shop online at my favorite stores. Melaleuca has given us generous discounts to partner with other companies. I hope you friend told you about that.

If I were you, I'd try it. You don't have anything to lose.

I really like Melaleuca products. I have tried most and there are a few things that I do not think work like they should or I just don't like, but overall, I like their stuff a lot. The first aid stuff works great! And they have alternate uses for things that are pretty cool too. Example- the solumel cleaner can be used a bug spray. Seriously. It is smelly at first (but isn't all bug spray) but soaks in to where you don't feel greasy and you don't smell it. The first time I saw my friend do this I was totally weirded out, but it works.

Some things don't work- the dish detergent being the main one. I have not found a single "green" dishwasher detergent that works, and this one is no exception. It leaves stuff dirty. I am not a fan of the food too much either, what I have tried tasted cardboardy. Otherwise, I think the cleaners are great. The laundry stuff works great, and best is that everything is safe. They even have a disinfectant that really is safe to use around kids on any surface. It is the only disinfectant that is allowed to be used in daycares besides bleach based stuff, from what I have heard.

All that being said, the minimum product commitment is pretty big. They do it on a points system instead of dollars, since they are worldwide. The minimum points you have to buy each month works out to be like $65-75. That is quite a lot. I also do not spend that much on regular cleaning supplies each month. And Melaleuca products tend to be very concentrated or long lasting, so I don't buy their stuff as frequently. The laundry soap lasts us forever. I use most of their stuff- shampoo and other bathroom products, first aid items, cleaning products, some makeup, and I have a hard time meeting the monthly commitment. If you do vitamins from there, it would be easier because the vitamins are expensive. Really good quality, but pricey. I can't remember to take vitamins so I stopped ordering them. So what I do is I share my monthly membership with my mom. I place our order every month, and just tell her what she owes me for her items that she orders. If you can work out an arrangement like that, it is great. I also order the disenfectant for my cousin to use in her daycare facility.

I did Melaleuca for 2 years. I recently quit because the monthly minimums were hard to meet, and I ended up buying more than we were using. Look over their site and check out the point values - you have to order 35 points every month. For me it ranged from $50 all the way up to $90 some months (including shipping).

Otherwise, I really liked most of their products. I still haven't found anything as good as the Solumel spray. I love their laundry detergent & pretreater. Their organic chocolate chip cookies are really good!

If you can find someone to go in with you, you can split your monthly orders. Just don't do it if it's going to be a stretch for you.

I had a 5 year nightmare experience with Melaleuca. Bottom line, it's not worth the extra expense for a product that's not really all natural.

You have to meet a minimum of a 35 point order each month. That equates to AT LEAST a $70 order. If you don't meet the requirement, they supplement your order with products from a backup list that you make. The problem is....that if you miss the monthly requirement they send you the WHOLE back up order and you end up with a huge bill and tons of products.

Not even Melaleuca reps know alot about the company. Most people on this site use the words "Green" and "all-natural" to describe the company and claim that there is a money back guarantee. None of these things are true. Read the fine print if you decide to join!

I like a clean house as much as the rest of 'em...but I don't buy $600 of cleaning products per year. If you add up the minimum monthly amount you're supposed to buy, it's a lot! And yes, you can make more by getting other people to buy, but how many of your friends -friends of friends- and relatives -and friends of relatives- can you seriously expect to buy $300-$400 of product per year? And if you don't want to buy any more product and live off your residuals, surprise, you can't. The whole enterprise depends on *everyone* in the chain doing their part to keep buying.

Are there other things you can buy? Yep. Does it make it worth it? Only you can decide for sure.

There are so many companies today making 'green' products there no reason to get hooked on the new Amway to keep your house clean and de-toxified. JMHO. (and a side note, Meleluca is related to a pine tree and there are a few people who are allergic, test the products on your skin first!)

I didnt know it also was used for a cleaning product. We used a gel form to put in a tooth socket after the tooth was pulled out. It was a form of antiseptic. It apparently works. That was some 13 yrs ago.

I did buy the products but there was no money savings. And as mentioned already, if you don;t buy the higher end products it isn't worth it. I liked the laundry but was not impressed and it did not save money buy using less. I buy Purex and my family has no issues and the clothes are nice and clean. The one product I really liked was the bathroom cleaner. OTher than that i thought it was a waste. I spent over $65 a month (minimum amount necessary to spend) and could have spent maybe $20 to get the products needed.

I have been shopping with Melaleuca for 5 years and if they make it and I need it I buy from them. The products work like they say they do. The vitamins are the best on the market with a 90 day challenge. Take them for 90 days and if you don't feel the difference they will refund all three months cost. I truely believe that Melaleuca is the reason my son's allergies have been controled. They have five shops, cleaning, personal care, makeup from Nicole Miller, sports and nutrition, pharmaceutical product. Not only do they have the best products for the best price, if anyone wants to make some money they have the best residual income. You just refer others to switch stores and Melaleuca sends you a referral fee each month they shop. No selling, no inventory, no risk.
Please switch stores and see for yourself. Talk to your friend.
If I can help you or anyone else please let me know.
Have you been to www.melaleuca.com yet?

I just want to put out there another awesome product that we have used for 25 years in the family called Shaklee. Green cleaning products, great vitamins and beauty supplies. Lots of info on their site.

www.shaklee.com

Shaklee doesn't charge a monthly fee, i believe it is $ 30 a year to be a member but you don't have to be a member to join, you just pay more. For us we save our $30 on just a few purchases of vitamins. I have been to a melaleuca party to support a friend and didn't really think their products were as good as shaklee And now reading this whole monthly minimum thing is not good.

Wow! I'm surprised. I've been a Melaleuca customer for five years now and I have seen tremendous savings. There are almost 400 products and five different product lines so you don't have to buy $600.00 worth of cleaning supplies a year. You saw the cost comparison when you were looking at it with your friend and that is an honest picture. The only way it cost you more money is if you continue to shop at all those other stores. I shop from Melaleuca first and then if they don't have something I need (which is rare) then I go somewhere else. They even have organic snacks and breakfast foods now.

My husband lost 110 pounds on their vitamins. No diet change, no activity change. He was almost 400 pounds at 6"7" and carried it well but I wanted him healthy. (A side note, I used to have horrible crow's feet around my eyes and 6 months on the vitamins with their eye cream, they are COMPLETELY gone. I am not a vain woman but it sure makes you feel good when you look better.) Our overall health has improved in so many ways that I could go on and on. Nobody in my family gets sick anymore and I was in and out of hospitals all my life. Talk about a cost savings there.

If you try it and don't like it, you can cancel at anytime (they do have an administrative deadline of the 25th of the month so that they don't drop the ball.) They give you $100.00 worth of free products just to try it and there's no risk. I don't know why more people don't try it, especially if their friend asks them to. What would be the harm? If your friend had a storefront, wouldnt' you support their business? The products are guaranteed for 60 days and there are so many to choose from. I have never had ANYONE that joined not tell me thank you....NEVER. Maybe it's because I make sure they understand everything or maybe it's because they read their membership kit when they get it. I even have a distributor from another company mentioned here that has joined....

If people don't like it that's fine. It your choice! I don't begrudge anyone who cancels their membership after they try it but don't limit it to one product line and give it a fair shake. The reason they can keep the prices down is because they don't advertise. They trust word of mouth. Nobody just walks into the grocery store and buys green beans. They shop for all their groceries and then if the store doesn't have exactly what they want, they go elsewhere....

Hope I helped Anne, and tell your friend I appreciate her for sharing this with you. She really cares.
