Hello! I am a stay at home mom of three young girls ages 3 yrs, 2 yrs. and a 4 month old infant. My 3 year old's pediatrician had some concern with her speech and feels that it may be delayed. Thus, she was recently assessed by a speech therapists. Luckily, she was found to be at a normal level for her age. However, the speech therapist suggested that she should enroll in a daycare or preschool in order to further develop her speech and continue to be at normal level. She believes that being at a school with other same age peers will help her in acquiring the communication skills of her age group and thus help further her speech development. Since our household relies on only one income, we are looking for a school that is inexpensive or offers financial aid. Could you offer any suggestions and/or recommendations? Thank you!

Sounds like what you might want to look into is a co-op, where the cost will be a little less in exchange for your working at the school. Los Feliz Cooperative Nursery School might be close enough to you in Silverlake. My daughter attends a co-op in the La Canada area and our tuition is considerably less than others in the area because I am required to work at least 1 day a month at the school, sometimes two. But I love being involved and my daughter loves the school. Good luck!

I like the suggestion of signing up for the mommy and me class. There is also the First 5 program. This is a school readiness program for children 0-5 funded by the tobacco money (lawsuit from many years ago) It is a school readiness program that has a 1 or 2 day center based activity and a home based activity as well. They start off with an educational evaluation for each of your children. I used to work for a non-profit who used this funding. Depending on each area, the program is offered by a non-profit or a local school. Good luck

I do not live in your area but co-ops are great. I did one with my son but I had to find a sitter for my other children when I had to work at the preschool. I also have had my kids in church preschools or MDO programs...mothers day out, normally at churches. or even try city classes. they are cheaper

You may qualify for the Headstart program which is a free preschool program for low income families. I don't know where the main office is in your area, but there is one down here in Carson, CA. Look them up in the phone book and someone whould be able to direct you to the closest office.
They take children from age 3 to 5, and it's a really good program.

I have a suggestion if you can't afford childcare. Why not sign up for Parent ed classes (also know as mommy and me). These classes are free, your children can interact with other kids their age and you learn too. Glendale community college and Pasadena city college offers these. You can sign up for two classes a week from 9-12. And they have a schedule almost like a preschool.

Also their is a website I have been hearing about it's called laup.net and the preschools listed base the tuition on your income. Hope this helps!

Most communities have pre-school through the city. I know Cypress does and it's very cheap for the semester. Check your local park and rec.
