My son hasn't had a friend party in a few years now and is asking to have one this year. When he was younger it was easy, he always wanted Chuckie Cheese. So any ideas on his party day?

TIA

What can I do next?

First, ask him.

However, I usually steer it toward outdoor sports. It's supposed to snow an inch on Friday--maybe just enough of a base for some speed-sledding!

Anything to get these kids outdoors is spot-on. They can play laser tag, go bowling, etc any day of the year. Not that it's not fun, but he'll only be 11 once!

My son is turning 8 on Sat. He's having some kids sleep-over, but we're having an old-fashioned 2-hour party at the house for several other kids, complete with games (some indoors, some outdoors).

We also have an annual treasure/medallion hunt in the yard for prizes (it IS Winter Carnival time in St. Paul, after all!)

Do they have places out there like a Dave and Buster's, which is like a Chuck E. Cheese for adults? I know they aren't adults, but while 11 is too old for Chuck E. Cheese, they can still have fun in a place that happens to have arcade games and serves food, and offers birthday parties for kids and adults: http://www.daveandbusters.com/events/plan-your-event/birt...

Have you asked your son if HE has any ideas or what he might like to do?

My daughter just turned 11 and she had a Minute To Win It party. We have a very small house so she only had 3 other girls over. We had about 12 games ready to play but didn't have time to get to them all. She had a BLAST! She said it was the best birthday party ever. We had small prizes and one "million dollar" prize (a Webkin) for each girl. So everyone got a prize. Everyone was involved. My older daughter even "MC'd" the games. All of the games can be found on the Internet. We spent maybe $20 on supplies (tissue, cups, ping pong balls, noodles, etc).

Good luck with the party and have fun!

Not sure when it is but we just went tubing for my son's birthday and they all had a blast. We just took 4 other kids so kept it small. The U has a climbing wall you can reserve for a party or there's Skyzone which is all trampolines.

I agree--ask him what he wants or if he has any ideas. I have boys and I've always preferred active parties to burn off steam. The YMCA offers reasonably priced birthday parties and you can choose between swimming and time in the gym. You also get an hour in a party room and can bring your own food. Grand Slam in Burnsville (maybe other locations too?) has mini golf, laser tag, batting cages, ball pits, arcade, etc. and is fun for boys. My boys have summer/early fall birthdays so we've often been outside, but what about ice skating, indoors or out? An indoor water park like the one near MOA or The Grove in Inver Grove Heights? Is he too old for an indoor playground? There are several of those around. Sleepovers and video games are always popular. My 13-year-old just had a Nerf-themed party at home in September. Even with all of the Nerf ammunition I purchased it was a pretty cheap party.

I don't know what your area has to offer but around here, some favorite boy things are.....

small group outing to see a sports team play (Dallas Mavericks, Hockey... even the minor leagues are fun here)

Main Event is a location with bowling, arcade games and laser tag

Laser tag is a favorite

We have an attraction that has mini golf, arcades, go cart racing, bungee jumping

Roller skating or ice skating

Hope that helps, I just don't know what is availble in your area so i tried to think of what I see and hear about around here.

Happy Birthday

Our area has mini golf with games and go-carts (some indoor some outdoor activities) and they have packages for parties. That might be tough in Jan/Feb though especially in your neck of the woods!

Indoor pool party? Our rec center and some hotels have packages for pool parties too.

Skating rink party? Fun and little work for you.
Ditto for bowling party.

He's kind of in a tough age...getting too old for the "kid" stuff.
What type of activities are you looking for?

A bowling party is a blast! You can usually bring in cupcakes for birthdays. The kids love it!
