I am looking for fun activities to do with a 4 and 6 year old in Michigan. Any suggestions? We plan to drive up from the Chicagoland area to Mackinac Island. We will probably camp for 1 or 2 nights also. We may do a combination of tent camping and hotel.

Is Castle Rock Camppark a good campground?

What can I do next?

Let's see... so much to do!!! Mackinac is one of my favorite places in the world! In the City, there is a laser light show every night at dusk and Dixie Saloon has the best fish and chips. There are two water parks: one is for the public and the other is for guests of a bunch of hotels. Mill Creek is fantastic and has trails to walk, adventure trail (climbing wall, zip line, and high canopy walk). Check out these websites for coupons: http://www.mackinaw-city.com/ & http://www.mackinacparks.com/ . Also, the first website should have coupons and schedules for the ferry rides to the island. Ride on the bottom in the morning if the air is still chilly, but ride on top at night (hold on tight to loose items and you may get wet!). You can bring your own bikes for a small fee or rent them when you are on the island. The fort on the island is great and there are plenty of maps when you get there for bike tours. You could also pay to take a horse carriage tour. Definitely check out the Grand Hotel (you won't be allowed in unless you are a guest and in dress code, but you can get close enough for good pics and a good view). As you go to the hotel, you will pass the island school, which has a playground. Also, check out this website, cuz there are just too many things to do on the island for me to list here! http://www.mackinacisland.org/ .

Have fun!!!

i dont know about that camp ground but there is a ton of stuff to do in Mackinaw! There is put put golf, the beach, Mackinac Island has a ton of things to do and if you can bring bikes I would! The beachs are great for kite flying! You can go horse back riding on the island and ride your bikes or take a horse drawn carriage tour. I havnt been up there in quite a few years but I always have a blast when I go!

When I didn't have kids, we camped at Fisherman's Island State Park. Very inexpensive and decent. The beach was memorable (rocky but beautiful). I think the camping was primitive.

Sleeping Bear Dunes was a blast.

We LOVE Mission Point Resort in Mackinaw Island. It's off the main street but still walking distance to town.
They have this HUGE field in front of the hotel, we love to chill out on the lawn chairs, drink the starbucks (on site) in the AM and the kids just run and run and run, chasing the birds and playing.
Plus, it's quiet at night (unlike hotels on the main drag) kids eat for like $1.50 each meal.
Your 6 year old may be able to make the bike ride around the island. Bring a picnic, take a couple breaks, its all flat riding, get a buggy for the 2 year old.
They have some kid activities at the hotel, we've never used but they are there.
OH---if you do stay there, spend $20 and buy an ENTERTAINMENT coupon book. They offer half off hotel prices. SAved me $560 during our last stay. Actually, just tell them over the phone you want the entertainment book savings, they just gave it to me.
