A good home made spinach-artichoke spread for her crackers! One of my former coworkers brought a crock pot version to work everytime we had a potlock it was yummy!
Hi!
My SIL gets sick if she has any sugar products. She is due in November. When we get together for Bible study the only snack she can really have is crackers with cheese. She told us that she also can't eat just carbs as she'll get sickl; she needs to have carbs with protein.
When we bring snacks to Bible study most of them are the treat kind-- bars, cheesecake, pie, etc. (We all like to experiment on new dishes and most of us are very willing guinea pigs!) We always have crackers and cheese and occassionally have chips, and veggies.
Does anyone have treat/snack ideas/recipes that I could bring that my SIL would be able to eat. Again, she can't handle sugar (pop makes her sick, but she is able to handle the McDonald's smoothies.)
Thank you!

Deviled eggs - high protein and yummy. =) Also, making up a fruit salad could be good, you might ask her if she can handle the sugars in that. (I could handle fruits but fruit juice and soda always made me sick)
She may have a candida yeast issue. Eating more sugar/simple carbs can make it worse.
Is she taking a probiotic?
How about protein shakes and protein bars?

I would try peanut butter sandwiches or spread on crackers, fruit with yogurt as a dip, deli ham or turkey with cream cheese, dill and mustard spread on it with a pickle or string cheese rolled up and cut into pinwheels, hummus and pita bread or pita chips, mixed nuts, olives, a tortilla with pizza sauce on it and some mozzarella cheese and your choice of pizza toppings broiled in the oven until the edges are crispy and then cut into slices, and pretzels with dip (sour cream + Ranch dip mix packet).
Hope this gets you thinking!
Hummus and anything.... crackers, pita chips, bagel chips, pretzels, carrots, celery, green pepper, etc. Hummus is protein and delicious and healthy!!
maybe some potato wedges with bacon, cheese and sour cream to dip in, cheese and crackers, little sandwiches, soup and crackers, just make it a little more of a mini meal than just desserts! maybe assign everyone to being a different type of food, some appetizers, some salads, some meat, some pasta or rice or potato, some dessert - Good Luck!

Can she have things with honey or other "alternative" sweeteners? I'm not talking Splenda or anything. But there are some great natural sweeteners that she might be okay with. Honey, agave nectar, brown rice syrup, etc. You might want to try some of those. Like maybe make a "sweet" pizza crust, spread it with cream cheese, and top it with fruit (a fruit pizza, for those that are familiar with the term). Or a Mediterranean-inspired sweet (like baklava) or an Asian-inspired sweet (like Korean sesame candy). They are pretty easy to make, and they taste awesome!
Hummus and pita bread squares? Flavored cream cheese on pumpernickel bread? Dill dip in a hollowed out bread bowl?
Run with the smoothie idea! If she can handle milk she can get a lot of calories from there or string cheese. Have her carry around some dry cereal to snack on. Even yogurt and granola might be good for her. Veggies are always a good snack too. At fast food, try a chicken salad. Wendy's has good ones.
Has she tried hummus on crackers or with veggies? Nuts and eggs are a good source of protein so you could always do some mini quiche as a fun snack along with a variety of nuts. Prevention magazine put out a recipe for cheesecake made with cottage cheese (stocked with protein!) a while back and it was okay, a little different, but okay. Might be worth a try! You could also make your own smoothies with yogurt and add powdered soy protein.
Hummus and crackers (hummus (chickpeas) is high in protein). Or guacamole and tortilla chips (I know guac is fairly high in fat, but it is also high in protein and really fills you up). How about bringing some organic sandwich meat that she can eat with the crackers? Meat is protein. As someone else posted, a raw vege/fruit smoothie would be tasty and filling, but it wouldn't have much protein. Deviled eggs are protein. Or if someone brought a good homemade lentil soup (lentils/beans/peas are high in protein).
