Hello there! I am looking for a family doctor. It is my husband, 4.5 yr. old, and myself. We moved up here a little over 2 years ago and thankfully we haven't had to use a doctor. I guess until now. (1) my son needs to be updated on his shots before kindergarten (so I want someone that is great with children) (2) I have suffered from severe migrains for a long time now and last night I had one that has resulted in some tingling in my right side of my face and also some numbness and twitching of my eye. (some say Bells Palsy) I need to find a good caring doctor right away to help me out. If anyone has a doctor that they love, please let me know! Thanks!

A.

We go to the MJ Medical Group, with Dr. Jutovsky and Dr. Clark. I like them because I like both doctors, so if one is busy I'll take the other with no concerns; also, Dr. Clark is a woman, which I prefer for gynecological issues. It's a teaching clinic, and they're very respectful. Both doctors and all the nursing staff are great with my son, who is four. Also, they are really good about getting you in fast, especially for your child.

Hello A..
I want to urge you to follow up with a neurologist right away, in addition to finding a family practice physician. You may have experienced a sydrome called a TIA (transient ischemic attack) that COULD be a precursor to a stroke. I don't mean to scare you; it could just be that you've had serious migraines, but I would hope you can rule out the more dangerous possibilities. There are many kinds of stroke-like events that can be useful in finding the source of your headaches as well.
Dr Sean Ruland, Dr Corian Thomas are excellent. They are neurologists at UIC. My husband went to them when he was experiencing loss of vision and funny headaches more and more frequently over the course of a few months. They sent him for a special MRI and did a few other tests. They wanted to evaluate him for any vascular anomolies. It turned out he had migraines-- however he never experienced unilateral tingling.
I am a former neuro-ICU nurse, so you can feel free to contact me if you like. Again, I highly recommend the above neurologists.
I know Dr Figueroa--she has a wonderful manner--very interested, committed and talkative.
I like my doc alot-- she is a GP at Northwestern: Dr Lisa Orelind.
Good luck.

Hello,
If you're on the North side, we go to the Advocate Family Practice Center on Ravenswood. There are a number of great doctors that are super with kids. We see an attending now (Dr. Feldman), but have had great luck with the residents when we need to get in in a hurry (though they are great at accommodating sickness and last minute needs). The nurses seem to administer shots in record time... very helpful!

I don't know if you live right in the city, but we like Dr. Figueroa and Dr. Tiemstra, at the UIC Family Medicine Clinic. (Near the medical district). They both love kids and Figueroa is very interested in women's health in general - she also delivers babies.

Dr. Peter Grant in Oak Park is a GREAT family doctor -with all ages of people. I am not sure if this is in the area for you or not (I do not think that you put your location in your email). He is located on Lake Street in Oak Park!

Good Luck!
