Looking for Dental Insurance

My husband is a contractor and I am a SAHM. We recently found health insurance coverage that we are happy with but the agent we were using didn't recommend their dental coverage. He said your savings wasn't worth the premium so I was hoping maybe someone in a similar position as me could recommend dental insurance that you are happy with. Just as a note, I have a 8 year old that is looking at needing braces in a couple of years if anyone has a plan that covers braces. Thanks!

M.,
Try www.dentalplans.com We have used the GE Wellness plan and they are fine.
For braces- Baylor dental college offers a huge discount if the students do the work. They are supervised at all times. It is almost like a lottery to try and call to get in- we did and they recommended my son come back at age 11-13 for another eval as his mouth would be chnaging a lot. At 10 his teeth don't look near as bad as they did at 8!

In my experience, other than the HMO at a large organization I worked for, there isn't much dental coverage that's worth the premiums. They typically don't cover orthodontics anyway. If it IS covered, it might be $500 - $1000, but when you figure your premium in, that's not much of a savings.

M.,
I don't have any companies to recommend, we personally have CIGNA. What I did want to say is good luck trying to find any insurance company that will be worth the premiums. In order to get procedures covered you will have to pay extremely high premiums which may end up costing you more than your out of pocket in the long run. Cigna isn't that great either, I need to get two crowns as we speak and my out of pocket will still be around $1000 says the dentist. GRRRRR!!! LOL Most people I talk to all say the same thing about their own plans. My advice for braces, start saving now or find a dentist who does good financing, that's what my sister does for her 11 year old, I think they pay $120/month for her braces.

I am an insurance agent and Delta Dental offers a great individual policy. I haven't quoted individual dental insurance in a while so I'm not sure what their rates are looking like right now. My experience with dental is if you get a PPO plan then the plan will cover expenses either 100%, 80% or 50% based on the complexity of the procedure and you will have a deductible of $50 for each person, max $150 for a family. So, more complex dental work will cost you more money but the savings is good. Orthodontics is usually covered at 50% with a $1,000 lifetime max. Then if you get an HMO plan everything is paid according to a fee schedule and you will still have to pay a portion based on the complexity. Please let me know if you would like me to help you find something that fits your family's needs. I would love to help.

My hubby works for the post office and the plan they have wasnt very good versus how muc hit cost so we got our own. We have Carrinton..its $15.00/mo for family and its actaully not bad coverage. Its a discount plan and most places take it. I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled and everything only costed me $100.00 so that was awsome (w/out any insurance it was $345.00) so I wasnt complaining. There are no limits to how much you can use like there is w/ reg insurance. There is a fee schecule online you can look at and you can see how much eah thing costs. Im not too sure about braces I didnt look at that but there are alot of dentist who offer $100.00/mo for braces so check into that. Dental insurances are all pretty crappy b/c you pay so much and have such little coverage per yr and ortho is limited to a one time max and its not very high. Good Luck w/ you search....this plan also has RX & VIsion discount too included!

I've heard good things about Baylor Dental College, too.

My friend sells AFLAC insurance and they have a Dental Plan. I don't know what the cost is, but she's not a pushy person so if you're interested let me know and I'll put you in touch.
