My daughter just turned 1 and we used www.texasstarbakery.com. It was outstanding! It is in Hurst and totally worth the drive. If you call more than a week in advance they can do a custom cake. Good luck!
There's a Tracy's Cakes in Old Town Lewisville (Main Street). I haven't used them but I know if you're an American Airlines Advantage Dining Member you can earn points there. Kind of off the wall tho. Good luck!
Candy Haven in Denton - it's well worth the drive.
We have used a fantastic cake decorator for a few of our birthdays. She has made an amazing Mickey Mouse cake and Thomas the Tank Engine complete with it's own mountain and edible tracks and rocks. Her name is Tracy Gamble @ ###-###-####. Also, ____@____.com. I hope you find something great!
I have done several baby shower custom cakes. Depending on what you are looking for. I work with fondant and buttercream. I would be happy to speak with you about what you are looking for. Selina designed my daughter's first birthday cake which is displayed in her portfolio (it's a tiered cake, brown, pink and white, with polka dots and stripes). It was not only beautiful but DELICIOUS and the price was right.
I believe she's in the Highland Village area, not all the way to Denton.
Magnolia bakery off of the highway (near Best Buy) is a great bakery. I have had pieces of their cakes and they are very good. If you call them I'm sure they could help you.
FYI: If you do go to Candy Haven (Denton) be careful transporting your cake in warm weather. The icing tends to melt.
